I just recently learned Sudoku, so i though i'd try this one out. One I downloaded the app i opened it up and took a good look at the main menu. Just looking at the menu already told me that the game was a cartoony style. I like a lot of styles and this one caught my appeal.
I started up a quick game and saw the interface. It was indeed cartoony to my perspective, and i generally liked it. The icons in the right bottom corner confused me for a second, but i got used to it and started getting how to use it.(Maybe Change From Pictures To Words?)Once I started, I really noticed and liked how if you tap a number it shows the rest of the numbers on the board. That really helps me out. It also showed me the possible locations where the number would affect the rest of the numbers where i put it (Ex: I tap a space and a bunch of yellow boxes pop up showing me where a place around it would affect anything else.)Alot like the other Sudoku games, they feature a note tool, showing most of the possibilities where to put that number. Also an eraser tool, and a hint tool when i have a brain fart.
I also like the font of the numbers. They were easy to read, and appealing to my eyes. The Board is really nice looking overall.
But when i finished my puzzle, you have to go into the menu and validate the puzzle. Another Sudoku app I have says directly if i got it wrong or right in the space. That make it a whole lot easier, But it takes the element of fun and turns it into a quickly guess all the numbers and move on to the next space thing.(Which is the bad way to play if you do Sudoku in pen)
So if i graded the app in three different categories it would look something like this:
Interface: 5/5 -Easy to use, no issues in the menu or anything.
Art Style: 4/5 -The icons in the corner confused me, took a while to understand.
Gameplay: 5/5 -Very fun! Totally Worth It For .99 Cents!
Overall: 4.6/5
Great Job!

The game never made it to the first page of the new release and got really little attention. So I would really appreciated if you guys enjoyed the game would post some reviews & rate the game in the AppStore. How do I make my account a US account?
#12
I think that will set you to the U.S. store. I wont be suprised if its a slow download.

I belive when you set up a new account, it asks what country you live in. In the drop down, Choose U.S.I think that will set you to the U.S. store. I wont be suprised if its a slow download.

@Aun: Your games are pretty. This one's easily the best-looking Sudoku app on the iPhone, because the competition barely puts any effort into theirs :)
12/18/2009 (9:50 am)
Downloads come from US servers anyway - things get here pretty close to instantly on the work line (10Gbit), so I doubt that will matter. I'm not sure if the old promo code/gift card tricks work anymore to create a US account from the rest of the world, though.@Aun: Your games are pretty. @Alexander B, Ronny might be right I'm not sure if the old promo code trick still works, sorry.

How is Aqua Jewel doing? Do plan to make more games free and put ads in them?
12/19/2009 (3:14 am)
Congrats, Aun! Will give your game a try this weekend. How is Aqua Jewel doing? Do plan to make more games free and put ads in them?

Overall, I'm pretty happy with Aqua Jewel.
12/19/2009 (3:37 am)
Hi Johnny, Aqua Jewel is making roughly about 6$ - 14$ a day. The past 30 days it made 240$ and it's in it's third month since launch. I'm not sure if those numbers are good or not but I know that some of the Top 10 free games are making 100$ - 300$ per day (a friend of mine is making that amount).Overall, I'm pretty happy with Aqua Jewel.
Quote:Do plan to make more games free and put ads in them?- I do but all of this have to be design correctly from the game design up. You'll have to find a way for people to get online or else most of them would just close their internet connection when playing your game. And most importantly find a way to display those ads without annoying them while still noticeable.

Those design tips are awesome. Thanks alot.

Hey Aun, thanks for the numbers! I really liked how polished Aqual Jewel was. Those design tips are awesome. Thanks alot.

If it stays like that for a year, it pays for a laptop. Or two cups of coffee a day, if you live here :P
Alternatively, it would pay server costs (dedicated even!) for the month. An ad-sponsored game would just barely pay for itself if not in the top 10, but a top 10 game would pay for labour and rentals.
Aqua Jewel and Defender Chronicles are my two toilet games ;)
(Hey, if it's a lengthy stay, I might as well enjoy it!)

$6 a day would pay my Internet expenses for that month, and recuperate the Apple membership :)If it stays like that for a year, it pays for a laptop. Or two cups of coffee a day, if you live here :P
