It has been busy over here at Ubiq Visuals and we have a couple exciting announcements!

3D Action Adventure Kit for T3D 1.0 Beta
The 3D Action Adventure Kit for T3D 1.0 has arrived! For those who have not heard about the 3D Action Adventure Kit before, the Kit is a Torque Add-on allowing you to create action adventure based games (think Shadow of the Colossus, Zelda, Mario64). For more info, video, and demo, please visit our 3D Action Adventure Kit product page.

Developers who have already purchased the 3D Action Adventure Kit for TGEA, have been granted a license to the T3D upgrade for free. You will find the T3D download in “Your Downloads” on your Ubiq Visuals website account.

We would like to note that the demo level has not been optimized for the new T3D pipeline and therefore has been temporarily replaced by a simplified demo. All other features are available.

3D Action Adventure Kit for TGEA Price Reduction
With the release of the 3D Action Adventure Kit for T3D, we are now offering our TGEA version at a discounted price of $375 (was $495).

Depth of Field and Screen Space Ambient Occlusion Shaders for Mac OSX
After numerous requests we have completed our port of these two popular shader kits to work on the Mac OSX platform. For those of you who have already purchased these shaders you will receive the Mac versions for free.

We hope these new features will help you in your game development. If you have any further questions please visit our website, forums, or email us at info@ubiqvisuals.com.

Out of my price range, but looks like it is worth every penny!

Just so folks are aware the license for this product is per title published. The upside is its not the 5k it was, downside is this should be stated up front.

What about getting the SSAO and DOF into T3D? I really like the SSAO shader I bought from Ubiq, it kicks the T3D SSAO's ass!

i believe T3d already has DOF, and SSAO is a different product from Ubiq, which rocks.

@Lorne: thanks for the heads up on the port of your kit to T3D. I plan on purchasing a license for a project very soon.

I'm interested in this pack, and I have a question. The climbing and ledge hanging, does it require much special setup in the building model or does it just work with any geometry.

I'm assuming that complex geometry or a lot of small triangles would give it trouble, but lets say I build a model, give it a fairly simple collision mesh with ledges and suchlike, will this pack simply worth with that model? Do I have to have specially named collision meshes in model? I'd imagine the vertical climbing surfaces need something special to mark them as climbable?

What is the art setup process like?

Just a note for anyone who was confused as me, the demo after it is installed will be located in the templates/empty directory.

Always liked the look of the product and would be a useful addition but TGEA is $295 for the whole engine and personally can't justify paying more for an add-on pack than I paid for the engine, especially on a per title license and even more so now that TGEA is end-of-life.

Great work on getting the pack over to T3D no doubt people with deeper pockets than myself will find it useful addition

@Bryce
We hadn't been thinking about porting our SSAO or DOF shaders to T3D (since T3D already has both). Thanks for the compliment though! We'll give it some thought.

@Gareth
The ledge-grabbing / climbing etc. will generally "just work" with any .dif .dts or .dae (collada) shape you throw at it. Even fairly complex geometry is OK as long as the edge or wall you want the character to use looks reasonably climbable. The character will automatically ledge-grab & climb around bevels in your geometry, and you can specify the range of angles (from vertical) that he can climb on etc.

In the kit, shape objects have 3 new fields allowing you to decide what objects the player can "play" on: allowPlayerClimb, allowPlayerLedgeGrab, and allowPlayerWallHug. These fields work in real-time, so you can even script little triggered "events" with them. For example, the player is ledge-grabbing when suddenly there's an rock-slide and he falls! Or, you can't climb that wall until you have the "climbing gloves" or whatever you want :)

@J.C. Smith
Sorry for the install confusion. Better install documentation is something we're working on for 1.0. Glad you figured it out though :)

@Robo
Yes! The 3DAAK comes with an installer for TGEA 1.8.1 now :)

Very cool.

Does "Overhauled player functionality allows players to walk, run, jump, slide, climb surfaces, climb up ledges, hang and move along ledges" all work in multiplayer too?

The per game license fees should be stated up front for this. Garage Games doesn't even charge per game for their engines.

I would recommend allowing the Indie License to not have to pay per game, and the Commercial to have to.

I agree with bryce. Though I have not purchased it, I've taking a look at the video of it. Looks waaay better. Have you thought about selling it to GG? You're kit is a great price, but I wonder what your commercial cost would be for this kit? I have no need for it now, but I may be interested in purchasing a commercial version of it in the future. Let me know.

Honestly, see no problem with the per game liscense fee. Since most people are never going to release a commercial game anyway its pretty much a non-issue anyway. And for those that do, the price is pretty minor in the scope of things.

Most middle-ware outside of the Garage Games world is per title based, and even with GG stuff there will be a point where you need to upgrade to a commercial liscense of pretty much everything that you've purchased from the GG store.

You don't need a pack like this to make your game, but it could save you lot of time and effort in the process, that to me is worth the cost.

@Lorne: Is there an ETA on when the T3D version of the demo will be available for download?
