The TGB Kart Kit has undergone its first refresh. Version 1.1 of the kit comes with a big set of updates and additions, including:
- Animated sprite support: now animations can be set upright in a mode7 sceneWindow.
- Better code and script: the source changes are shorter and come with better instructions; the script has been simplified and improved.
- Optimized kart physics option; use the traditional script or call optimized built-in functions.
- Profiles: karts, tracks, and powerups can be added with the addition of art and a simple profile text file.
- Statistics and descriptions displayed on kart and track selection screens.
- The track can be set to any size without any additional coding.
- Tutorials: documentation and assets have been supplied to add a third kart, add a shell powerup, and add a third track.
- Unique karts: each kart plays differently thanks to the profiles.
- Vertical / horizontal offsets are now possible! This allows jumps, flying, and more.
Yes, you read correctly. The fuzzy family of kart racers has expanded to include this charming fellow, Bernie Beaver! Bernie denies any affiliation with any college mascot of similar name or appearance. In addition to the fabulous list above, the kit comes with improved documentation that helps explain how this before and after is made possible.
I would also like to announce that I'm putting my money where my mouth is... or is that a game where my kit is? I have a project in development that will prove that this kit it is the single fastest way to produce a racing game for the iPhone, PC, and Mac. Expect a blog post on that soon! Finally, Be sure to check out the TGB Kart Kit forum for support and ideas.

Haha. Ya, looks like I accidentally cropped the karts out of the before. Oh well. You get the idea. :)

This is seriously becoming one of my favorite kits for a Torque product. Amazing work Chris.

Thanks Mich! The next update should have a few new goodies as well, such as Time Trial and Grand Prix modes.

Looks nice. What kind of framerates are you getting on the iPhone with this & the current iTGB? It'd be great to know some numbers for the 3G & 2nd gen iPod touch. Thanks!

Highest I pushed the 2G touch, with an otherwise unmodified iTGB 1.3, was 36 FPS. The only thing I did was convert all art to PVR. :)
