About the game

Summary

Legacy of Numidar (LoN) is a multiplayer only indie game that uses the Torque 3D engine, and which combines multiple genres and a wide variety of gameplay elements, such as: horror survival, tactics, teamplay, combat, manipulation, trust/distrust, paranoia, non-combat solutions, and more. During the game Numidars (the main characters) face a hideous inside enemy (the Metamorph) which has infiltrated their location (spaceship, space station, outpost on a planet, expedition, ...) and which has possessed the body of one of them.

Objectives

The Numidars in most cases try to uncover and kill the Metamorph, or try to survive either by requesting and waiting for evacuation, or by leaving the location themselves using a space shuttle. While the goal of the Metamorph (in most cases) is to kill or infect everyone else. (The objectives of the players and the game rules vary depending on the game mode.)

The Metamorph

The Metamorph is capable of transforming into monster forms to can more effectively attack the Numidars. Each of the monster forms have their benefits and weaknesses compared to the other forms (including the original Numidar form). The Metamorph also has special capabilities to influence the other characters and the environment.

The Numidars

The Numidars must rely on teamwork as individually they are greatly outmatched by the Metamorph, its capabilities and lethal monster forms. The players have the opportunity to specialize their Numidar characters to fulfill specific or general roles in the team.

Character customization includes:
- Selection of character class (further customization depends on character class).
- Choosing special characteristics (which alter the statistics of the characters).
- Acquiring weapons, items and protection/armor suits.
- Optionally acquiring various equipment or space shuttles (which will be added to the map).

Development

Time & budget

LoN is in development since the mid of 2008, but this also includes the planning stage, not just active development, which has began a few months later. Due to the very limited founding (my personal revenue only) the development only progresses slowly, but surely.

Contributors and organization

The entire development is divided into several phases (modeling, programming, concept art creation, music composition, sound design, play-testing, and so on) and only focus on one/a few phase(s) a time. The work needed to be done each phase is divided into small individual tasks (creation of a model, creation of a concept art, creation of a music theme/sound effect, and so on). Instead of maintaining a permanent team I look for freelancers who complete one or a few tasks which they can fulfill at high quality and yet I have the opportunity to chose the best offer so can keep the costs of the development as low as possible.

Glad every of you like the progress of LoN.

I will regularly post blogs about the game, its development and the progress we make (probably once a week/every two weeks).

You may also check the official website for the list of contributors (and their websites/portfolios) if you like these works, maybe their talents can aid your projects as well.
