Why did I fail at making a game using TGE?

Well, it took a year, but I finally understand what was holding me back. Why was I not succeeding when the vehicle (TGE) was better than most? It is because I did not understand what it took (still learning) to go the whole way. I needed to expect failure and rejection as part of the game. However, most of all, I was not doing the small things each day to reach my goals. Oh, goals, maybe I should have been setting those too!
It is all summed up as to 'Why did I fail at making a game using TGE?' in the book "The Slight Edge" by Jeff Olson. There are other reasons, but this book covers the big ones. It will help you understand why and give the power to make the changes in you that are needed to make it in whatever you do. I hope you read it and take it to heart. Success is just 168 pages or less away.
I am not in the hunt to make a game at this point in my life. I was fortunate to meet some amazing people who are taking me under their wing and guiding the way I think, do, and achieve. Garage Games has always had a special place in my heart as I have watched people grow and succeed. I salute those of you who have built great games and I wave the checkered flag in your honor. I salute those who are struggling, never stop, as you are honing yourself and building character. Don't be afraid to ask for help beyond the technical.
Alas, my life is taking a different path. My vision for my future, my country and for my world has changed. I know deep down I can make great things, but with people in the world suffering things don't matter. So I am concentrating on people instead. Starting first with myself so that I can offer people something of value, hope.
Take care and God bless each every one of you,

"amazing people who are taking me under their wing and guiding the way I think, do, and achieve"
That describes either the army or a cult and quite frankly makes me fear for your safety!

This all sounds wonderful and heartfelt but, you may want to look at the wording of your blog again."amazing people who are taking me under their wing and guiding the way I think, do, and achieve"
That describes either the army or a cult and quite frankly makes me fear for your safety!

I'm glad Peter said it before I couldn't resist the urge anymore!

not everyone can make a game. a lot of people think just because they purchase an engine it includes a "press button to make uber game" kit with it. if you failed at making a game, it was because "you failed at making a game". perhaps your level of skill is not ready to make a game in TGE. some of us have been 3d artist and programmers for a decade or more. lastly never give up, the more you hack at it the better you will get, it is not going to happen over night. start out learning 3d for a few years, learn some C++ and Python for another few years, then come back to Torque, you will understand why you failed in the beginning.

we are all on a learning curve here and have failed before, probably will fail again but no matter, we will keep trying none the less.

Yhea, ans I dont think you should let anyone guide the "way you think act and do stuff" you should let them inspire you...we are all on a learning curve here and have failed before, probably will fail again but no matter, we will keep trying none the less.

The key is to fail gracefully, get back on your feet, and succeed at your next attempt; game or otherwise.
If you're still in the area (where I'm at), keep your head up and keep on keepin' on. If you've moved away, keep on keepin' on, too.

A lot of us have failed at making a game. Or games. In fact, most if not all of us have at some time in our careers/hobbies/what-have-you.The key is to fail gracefully, get back on your feet, and succeed at your next attempt; game or otherwise.

First off, thanks for your concern, second there is no reason to fear.
I have taken my time to analyze where I am headed in life. I realized there are more important things in life than moving pixels around on the screen. In case you haven't noticed nearly 10% of the US population is struggling big time. That number is going to rise unless people are educated as to what it really happening.
Another thing I found is that game developers do NOT have the lifestyle I want out of life. I don't want to create a second job for myself or create a job where I am home, but not really home. I asked myself 'What do I want out of life?', found someone who has what I want out of life, and am learning to do what they do (much of it is thinking differently).
If your worried someone is teaching me how to think, then you should worry about what you are being taught to think when you pick up a newspaper, watch tv, watch a movie or play a video game. You become what you think about and people know this and use it against you. Many people think that the phrase "I think therefore I am." means a self realization of consciousness. It does on one level, but it also is a clue as to how to become who you want to become or through repetition become who someone else wants you to become.
I don't expect you to understand because you do not know what I know. I wanted to say goodbye to a great community that has added to my life. I made this decision more than a year ago. I expect one day our paths will cross again. Until then keep on keepin' on.
Thanks for the encouragement,
Frank
P.S. The failure was not technical, it was philosophical. If you read the book you will understand. It is why MOST people fail at whatever they are doing.
