This thing is Lookin pretty hot, I don't know... it's like the boys at Microsoft have been eatin their Wheaties lately... Windoze 7 is totally Bad@ss and this new Zune doesn't look like a complete debocle
Hey, maybe 5 years of being slapped by those "I'm a Mac" ads woke em up

Supposedly.... now this is what I hear from the IT guys at work
supposedly it's gonna tag into Windows Live Arcade and will even support some blazin real-time 3d that should put the current state of Open GL ES to shame...maybe

Personally I love the brushed aluminum case and I hate the plastic iPhone 3gs
that's enough for me to buy one...but would I develop for it?

I'm pretty tired out, having enough trouble getting a PC project out much less something for iPhone or this newfangled thing.

oh, well. Zune HD - Something to dream about

yeah supposed to be XNA and GameStudioExpress compatible. Plus he HD has HD video out with HD radio and FM radio built in. I'm looking forward to it. I would think that would mean that you should be able to run TorqueX and maybe Torque2D on it when it is done.

Unfortunately, though the device looks plenty capable, there's no hint of a developer sdk emerging anytime soon. I hope that's soon remedied because I'd love see people make games for this device.

Ya no kidding Brett. A lot of money can be made by being on the ground floor of something when it begins since there's limited consumer choice and maximum consumer excitement :)

Unfortunately, if Microsoft continues with their regular trend of un-original thinking, they will create yet another network, ignore their existing Live customer base, and try to duplicate the specific functionality of iTunes by restricting app development and following in Apple's footsteps...

Then again I hope I'm wrong. It's always nice to have more FREE distribution platform options.

it's fun to bash on Microsux but in all seriousness, if this thing does half of what's being bounced around on the interweb, i think it's gonna be a serious platform

it just looks hot too, the exposed screws give it a bad@ss industrial vibe. it's likw 60% iPhone 40% Master Chief's left foot

Maybe Zune guy will get his tattoo's redone.

There will probably be a store and some development pipeline in place when the damn thing launches. I would hope. There are some XNA guys doing development for it and you can go grab XNA studio and start yourself. However no Zune HD API's yet.

I'd also hazard a guess that you could use TX2D.

I'd be surprised if they didn't let us write for it, like Xbox Indy Games. I'd also be totally surprised if anything was free.

lol and 100% Awesomeness!

There is zune support in the existing XNA GS3.1 I would think that anything written for the existing Zune would be supported. But yeah the new advanced features will prolly come from a new SDK after launch. I found a couple sites that report today as the launch date but it is not on the bestbuy website yet.

www.slipperybrick.com/2009/08/best-buy-zune-hd-at-220-for-16gb-290-for-32gb-sept...

"Gizmodo has some screenshots from Best Buy’s inventory system showing the 16GB and 32GB Zune HD models going on sale September 8th for $220 and $290. Those prices are pretty cheap compared to the current iPod touch pricing, so the Zune HD is looking super competitive.

Of course the touch’s prices are likely to get adjusted sometime after the Zune HD’s launch. We’ll see what happens. The Zune HD is looking better and better. Are you sold yet?"

man, they should release some kinda sdk already, nothin like a big fat empty app store when u buy your device especially conidering iTouch/iPhone has...like 87,321 apps already... like 40 of which are really good...

I don't work for Microsux, guys. I am not a Microslave.
I just see an opportunity that I missed with the iPhone, I got in sooooooo late on iPhone dev.

Maybe we can have a second chance!

You can pre-order at bestbuy for like $25 down think I might go at lunch lol. So yeah Sold.

I think honestly there is more potential with the zune at least from what have read anyway. The only think is the apple market share and the past history of the zune platform itself. But I think that is can be overcome. Especially if there are good tools for games like if the torque2D stuff or TorqueX works on it. The problem with the Iphone is it seems to all be about quantity and not quality that that whole movement. I would rather see fewer really high quality worth having games that thousands of free-$1 wastes of space. I mean lets face it 90% of what is on the app store is crap. Plus there is the whole apple "cult" thing. There are a few million of these people that buy the stuff just cause Steve Jobs tells them it is awesome. I just think that there has been a changing of the guard no that Gates is gone. It Seems like we are starting to see a new MS. I hope it continues.

It will be a nice warfare once they start building their new "Windows Stores" in malls. The only problem is, apple has their own line of computers, unlike microsoft. So that means it will be a store full of zunes and dells....
