Digital Lightstorm Closing....

Welcome!

Just a short blog to let everyone know, I'm leaving game design for a while. I have lost interest in it. Beyond The Abyss, the game we all was working on, has been halted until I can get back on my feet and get the passion back to do game design, as right now, it's work to me and when it becomes work, it's time to move on to something else... at least for a while...

So, I'm moving on to work on my side project, Music design. Not sure if I will do ambient tracks again since they don't sell so well but I am planning on doing Trance music and trying to be a producer of quality Trance Tracks. I'm planning on shutting down the web site once my contract is up later this month and I'm going to vanish for a while to get my life back in order.

I'm trying to deal with life after a break up of 10 years, and still hold my head high. It's not easy. I'm not forever leaving game making/design, just putting it to the side for a while to work on other stuff, I do plan to return to the art again sometime, but I just don't know when that might be at this time... usually, when I take a break or an extended vacation from what I love, it seems to work out better in the long run. I'm burning myself out trying so hard to make this game happen and think by backing off, the love for the creation process will return.

I'm heading for the studio after I do this blog, beginning on setting my path to a quality music track and see what comes from it all. I have always loved music design but been more into the ambient side of that... now I'm trying to do trance tracks and nothing else, all focusing upon the Trance and Club Scene. I will post tracks as I get em done here for you all to enjoy, and if I get lucky in doing my other love, music, you heard it here first... :o)

Til we next meet...(I'll still be hanging around reading blogs thou, so I'm not gone forever) and best of luck with all your projects. Maybe after this storm blows through, I might reopen a new game studio with better management but that's yet to be seen...

Sincerely,

Will Zettler

Good Luck Will, long term break ups are very hard. I'm glad your still going to do music though, even if your taking a break from design. When you feel like stepping back in, give me a shout, and I'll give you a hand on some techniques and other things if you so wish.

Again, good luck.

Music or games, Will, I hope you find happiness and success with whatever you are working on. Your presence is, and always will be, appreciated on this site too, if you feel the urge to check in with a blog or two.

Stay strong, Will, and good luck! Do post your tracks, and even if you don't always have a track to share, just keep us updated about what's going on with you in general. Take care, my friend.

Long term breakups can be brutal, and I wish you strength as you go through this tough time. Your game will be waiting for you when you get back to it. I say take as much time as you can to focus on the things that make you feel good in life and just take a break from all the rest.

Good luck Will, i'm sure we'll see more from you when you are ready :)

Just keep doing that which most helps you fulfill your day. I'm kind of doing the opposite... giving up the music for a while and having a try at game development.

Sometimes just taking a step back and getting a fresh breath of air after some of the things that life throws at us is what we need for ourselves. Good luck.

WOW, everyone, thank you SOOO much for the support. Yeah I think I'm going to take the remainder of the year off from game design and come back when it feels more like fun and not su much like a job. Right now, that music path is what I need to fill my time with and believe me, I will always be thinking of the great people like you guys here.

Deb: Yeah I'm not leaving all together just stepping away for a while to get a clear, clean head from the relationship, and the game design so I can come back stronger then ever. Thanks for the continued support!

Konrad: Thanks so much... I shall return hopefully early next year but I will pop on to make sure everyone knows whats going on and I have to do my blogs with my new tunes :o)

Andrew: Thanks! Yes, I will be in touch when I come back maybe we can get together on a project or something... I'm staying away from large projects for now until I get my feet running again down the road. Send me your email and we will stay in touch...

JC: Thank you!

Michael: Yeah funny how that works out... I'm going back into music and your coming out of it... yeah, I agree, the change is needed for a time right now but I promise I will return, I just don't know when that will be but thank you!

Kenneth: Yeah I agree, the game isn't going anywhere, I'm just shelving it for a while. Once we get back into the swing of things, I'm more then sure we will release it. I'm so glad I don't do the corp thing where they pay my bills :o). I *will* return but like I said above, just when is the prob... hopefully by later this year or around Jan or Feb 2010 I'll be back in the mood again... but yeah, I will always have this project to continue on and that's not going anywhere right now.

CSMP: Yeap I will as soon as I get more to post... I will do another blog on the music stuff once I get it all together and how I want to get it out there... oh and the music I do will always ALWAYS be free to you guys as the GG fans have always been there for me supporting me like you guys are. Maybe if it takes off, I might be able to get my music published on a trance show called A State Of Trance which is a huge radio show that goes out on the web... check it out that will give you an idea of what I'm trying to create as far as the music sounds go...

Also, if anyone would like to work with me on a trance piece or a CD if your into music, I'm open on that too. Email me at dlstorminc@yahoo.com and I'll get back with you asap. I need to swing through St Louis and get my music keyboard again but still can work on minor tunes until then without a keyboard for the music... oh and I use the Axiom 25 by M-Audio (Heres the link to it if you want to see what I'm using: http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/Axiom25.html). Pretty sweet keyboard...

Well worth the money to me, I love it cause its small and compact and allows me to use drums on the keyboard as well as via a firewire. I hook it to Reason 4 and off I go... soon to invest in the new RECORD by the same people... if your into music this is the setup to have, it works for me and some even use Live as well as VST plug-ins, which I'm still learning to use.

Again, thank you to everyone here and who didn't post. I promise I will return, with a new game studio and much more when the time calls, but for now I'm outta here to make a few samples before bed, but please watch for my blogs on the new music stuff and updates on the return, when its ready. I will miss you guys... see ya all soon!

@Will, not to sound corny, but breaking up is hard to do:(

I know, my high school sweetheart broke up with me before we were to be married at 20 and we re-united 20 years later and tied the knot!

BOY was that a mistake.. But it drove me further into game design.

Fool me once... well she fooled me twice didn't she. But loving being single.

Good Luck..

Knowing some of the backstory Will, I fully understand where you are comming from. Take some time, give me a holler every now and then, and let's stay in touch. It will get fun again. Take the time to catch your breath and you'll be in great shape.
Until then my friend.

Until then, keep in touch and go do a bunch of things you enjoy!

I am doing the opposite, im giving up music and sticking to games. I have 2 albums out in the stores plus worldwide distribution(album at bestbuy, target, circuit city before closing lol). It was fun, but theres not much money to be made unless you are like 6 albums deep for my genre of music. I am old and don't have the patience to continue that lifestyle and struggle as a starving artist. The music industry is tapped. Not much money involved unless your touring and selling merchandise. I have a family so touring sucks and its hard to land a deal where you get a large sum of money in advance. good luck.

P.S. it took 13 years to get a record deal and worldwide distribution, and thats only because we had a very wealthy investor who helped us get there. Hope you have some money saved up, if your planning to sell. advertising is going to cost a fortune. Unfortanately talent doesn't matter anymore in the music industry, you buy your way in nowadays.

@Alan: Thanks man, yeah I'm just taking a vacation away to get some air, your right about the itch :o). It will be with me for the rest of my life but I'm just enjoying life for right now and taking it slower then usual until I can figure out my next move. Yes I guarantee I will return, so don't count me out just yet.

Stadi: Wow, that really made me stop and think. I would be doing Trance thou and hoping to have it published thru other record places such as Armin van Buuren's web site, Armada Records and some other sites. But yeah, i agree. If you don't have the bank to back the project, usually its hard to nail the gigs to sell. I'm hoping to just do this for fun and see what comes from it. I am better at making my Ambient Packs for games then trance music for the masses. Besides, its hard, if not impossible for a small guy like myself to even crack the trance charts unless the piece is super unique.

If it takes off cool, if not, I still have my day job and my game design to fall back on once I get back into the grove of things. It's just a temp setback is what I'm thinking right now. Been down about a lot of stuff going south on me, from the relationship after 10 years is finally over to I get frustrated with certain things of game design that I can't figure out or complete, not including I suck as an texture artist :o) but thats all ok. Life goes on and I will pull through all this mess. Just trying to get my mind off the game stuff right now but yeah you def. made me rethink this as the artist stuff is not where the money is at as far as a lifestyle goes.

My old saying follow your dreams with all your heart and you can never go wrong... funny how that works as I have been trying that and its pushing me into a wall... so thats why I am backing down for a bit, and too... if you do what you love, the money always follows, at least in my case its always been that way.

Thanks for the reality check thou, that is something I think I needed badly here in spite of all that I feel is going wrong in my life right now. I app. you writing about that. And thanks for the support. It helps to know I got this many friends up here. Yeah it feels sometimes like we go through down times (pity party?) and then we come back weather weeks or months, but we always return to that we was made for. I will be back... thats a promise.
