RPG Starter Kit needs an organiser

by Maximillian Brewer · 06/19/2009 (4:37 am) · 7 comments

Hi all!

Well in an attempt to create a much needed RPG Starter Kit for the community, I have failed. This is mainly due to 3 things. These are the fact that I am developing an Advanced FPS Starter Kit, which will hopefully make its way to the Dev Store and I am also in the middle of a small game and a very large one, as well as a series of iPhone apps.

So my final decision is to hand over my role as head of this little project. This means you will get:

- The username and password to rpgstarterkit.webs.com (a website i set up for it)
- Contact list for the people involved

If someone does decide to take up the role of organising this much needed kit, then I am still very happy to contribute, but I just don't have enough time to completly control it :D

I'm currently working on an absolutely basic RPG starter. It only has two things so far;
1. 'RPGDialog' resource (by Gonsalves) working
2. 'Improved AI Guard Unit' resource (by Twisted Jenius) working

I'm going to add a single simple spell (fireball) and a simple merchant system (buy/sell item, will try to add 'trade items' also). The RPGDialog resource can do alot, so I may be able to just add to it for the 'merchant' system.

If I can, I'd like to add a single 'Quest' (based on the merchant system, 'take this item to NPC')...

If your starter is anything like mine, I'd be happy to try to organize it. I don't own AFX though, just TGE 1.5.2.

Update: I've read your blogs and it sounds great. I was able to integrate the 'melee' system into TGE for a different project, so I'll try to add that into this one as well.

EDIT: Did I mention, my BasicRPG.starter will be a free resource to the community? Since it will have code changes, garagegames may limit it to license owners. Once it's finished, I'll ask them what to do.

What is a "RPS Starter Kit"?

Roll Playing Shooter?

Which engine? I think that is a pretty big decider from here on out I know we are doing Torque 3D from here on out.

At Digital Shock, we are close to finishing our simplified RPG Genre kit. It should be available in the dev store sometime this year. The simplified RPG Genre kit, is a dumbed down version of what was planned on the blog. GG wants us to produce a smaller version of what we were planning to see how the community will take it. This means, most of the GUI planning will not be available but in script form. Luckily we are talking to Yuri about merging our kits with their GMK. Which will introduce some lines of GUI.

Note: Its a linear style rpg kit, which means turn base battle system.

@DS, nice blog. The kit sounds great. Unfortunately, I'm still working with TGE1.5.2, so my RPG Starter Kit will be based on that.

I'm happy to accept any advice though.

I would be willing to donate my games inventory system and treasure container system (100% script based) to any rpg kit that wants it. It has no fancy gui buttons or layout, but it is one solid motherf****r of a system :), and I have the bug list down to 2 as it nears completion. Anyone interested should send an email over to bryce@nimansoft.com.
