Another Garage Games Intern!

Well, here I am!

The People's Republic of Eugene, Oregon,

Eugene, the World's Greatest City of the Arts,

Eugene, formerly "Skinner's Mudhole",

or rather,

Eugene, the home of Earthsiege and Garage Games.

I've been a fan of Dynamix's games since I was a kid so Eugene is a very special place to me. Though I haven't seen many giant robots, HPCs, or Spinfusors around town, the trip has been awesome right from the get-go.

Starting from monday until september 1st I will be interning at Garage games. It's really an honor to be there considering its relationship to the games I've spent my life playing and the projects that are happening at GG right now. I am a game development intern and will probably be doing art related stuff for games on instantaction.com. Prior to this, I've been a sophomore at NYU studying animation and contributing textures and conceptart to Tribal Wars (a Starsiege Tribes mod of Quake Wars Enemy Territory). You can find some of my work at jsandart.blogspot.com

Since I hardly drive back in New York, I took the past few days to go out, practice, and explore the area. Thankfully, Eugene's proved to be a real easy place to get around.

It's definitely a nice, verdant looking area - at least in the summer time...

And the town itself is framed by these distant rolling hills...

The first thing I noticed was how laid back and friendly the people are here - certainly more refreshing than the chiseled folks of manhattan. I actually arrived during the local University's graduation so there's been a pretty festive air on the streets. Another feature of Eugene is the train that you can hear whistling through the town every so often...

...It's probably an annoyance for most people but it's definitely a home comfort for me. Being a city guy, I can't sleep a night without hearing some sort of noise in the background. But other than finding a few cool restaurants, getting the lay of the land, and visiting the saturday market, I got my room setup and also met the other interns - cool people as well!

As of right now I'm sitting in the 5th street market with my brother who's going to be leaving me here today. I guess the only thing left to do is sit back and hang around till tomorrow when the flogging, err... internship formally begins.

Really excited to be here!

NYer, huh? Gunshots, screams, sirens ...

Ah, good old serfdom - I mean internships.

Nice artwork on your site, too.
Good Luck.

Welcome! I'm adding your name to the Intern Progress Tracking Board today. You get two gold stars:

1. For writing a blog (awesome).
2. For having your HD TV on top of a dresser like I do

What kind of permit do you need to fly one of those Tribes LPCs in Oregon?

:D

I used to live on an aircraft carrier -- I can't sleep without the sound of roaring jet engines!

Is Eugene really the "Brick and Mortar" location of GarageGames? You mean I'm gonna be less than three-hundred miles from the MotherLand?

Mapquest:

Whoa. I'm going on a pilgrimage if I have to walk it barefoot through the snow uphill both ways in my grandfathers pajamas...

I'm currently repositioning my monitor so that it faces North.

This is so cool.
