Ecstasy Motion is HERE!!

Okay, it's ready at last! BrokeAss Games is proud to announce the release of Ecstasy: Early Adopter Edition, which as I mentioned in my blog from a few days ago, is selling at a special price - for Garage Gamers - of only $99.99!! Just go to our site, www.ecstasymotion.com, register as a user (if you don't get your email at this point, tell us and we'll set you up by hand, sorry about that!), and hit the "Purchase Now" button!
Keep in mind, of course, that this is the Early Adopter Edition you have in your hands - it will still have a few bugs here and there, but it does work, and we're very excited to start getting input from our first group of users! We look forward to your feedback and suggestions as to how we can make the final 1.0 version of Ecstasy as powerful as it can possibly be!
Did I mention Ecstasy easily exports bvh animations to Second Life?
It's hard to believe it's already been a year since I started working with the BrokeAss guys, but I've been continually impressed by the meticulously thorough, do-it-right-the-first-time approach they take to everything they do. As an example, while many software companies are content to release their software as a simple install, and then expect their users to keep up to date by downloading patches all the time, the guys at BAG went one up from that, and wrote their own SVN-based client launcher/patcher program, which checks for and automatically receives updates every time the user launches the program!
If you are publishing your own game or any other major software project, I highly recommend keeping your eye on BrokeAss Games, because this launcher/patcher system is going to come out for general retail to the indie market, just as soon as we iron out the bugs on the Ecstasy launch!
Which was a somewhat long-winded way to say: Our deployment system, while cool as all get-out, is also fresh out of the starting gate, so please follow all instructions to the letter and be patient. Once it's up and running, you'll be kept up to date with everything that gets added to Ecstasy. First instruction: you need to have version 2.0 of the .NET framework from Microsoft installed before our launcher can even start your download!

How cool is that? It's the installer that keeps on giving!
When you purchase the program, you will get an email from Intelli-Protector, our IP guardian-of-choice, with a long license code. Simply paste this in when asked, the first time you try to run the program, and you should be good to go from that point on.
The first time the launcher comes up, you need to hit the "Download/Install" button, the fourth one down. That will start an SVN checkout -- be patient here, it's not a big program but it will take a few minutes, don't touch anything till it's done. After you get the "download completed" prompt, make sure you followed the initial instructions at the top - you need to install the latest DirectX 9 and PhysX system software, or it will crash immediately - but if all goes smoothly, you should be able to hit "Launch Application" and be in there banging around before you can say "Wow, T3D is awesome!"

You will also need to have version 2.0 of the .NET framework from MS installed, before, launching the program...;), my last bit of testing before heading over to our new house last night....once I installed the 2.0 version of .NET, program launches fine.

We will look into it today. The strange thing is, letting other people register... I'll go poke it with a stick right now.

1 - people using vista or win7 - if you install to default location (program files\ecstasy motion) you have to run that launcher in admin mode.
2 - there was a problem when i pressed download\install - it downloaded some files than exited - after that both download and repair woldn't work. If you get this go to your install directory and delete the app folder you find there - after that restart the laucher and download will work.
3 - after download you will need to install IPClient (it's on the app folder i mentioned above)
Once all this is done (and assuming DirectXSDK, PhysX and .NET Framework 2.0 are installed you can launch the application from the laucher.
Also, guys at BAG, you are putting thumbs.db files in there - although there's no problem with that, it makes your customers use bandwidth and time downloading uneeded files - maybe filter out those would be a good idea if this project grows to have many folders with images.

One additional note to all users: we've included a lot of scripts in plain text form to encourage heavy modding and customization of Ecstasy. Two things to know about that:
1) you should be aware that we'll be doing heavy development on it ourselves, and you will be receiving our updates every time you launch, so whenever possible, you'll want to put your own code in separate, new files that we won't be accidentally stomping on. Otherwise, you will have to merge our changes into yours, which is nobody's favorite coding job.
2) In order to keep things simple for new scripters, we left many of the more technical scripts (esp. in the client directory) as compiled dsos. We didn't do this to protect any private IP, just to keep people on track, so if you want any of those scripts just ask, we can throw them back in the repo if we think they have general applicability, or mail them to you.
Also, on one of my boxes I'm getting a weird DirectX bug which also happens in plain vanilla T3D Beta 2 - sometimes it gets through the loading datablocks section and hangs, and keeps doing that with any T3D build until I reboot, after which it works fine. Sorry about that! I'm hoping that's something that's been fixed in the current T3D head.

Thanks, Luis!! Sorry for the speedbumps, we'll be fixing them asap. One additional note to all users: we've included a lot of scripts in plain text form to encourage heavy modding and customization of Ecstasy. Two things to know about that:

Well the problem with the error message "An Error Has Occurred! You are not allowed to access this section.", was a rong link "http://ecstasymotion.com/..." change the link to "http://www.ecstasymotion.com/...", then you can download the Ecstasy (EA) Launcher/Patcher.

I'm working on the email and redirect issues with the host, its part of the same issue. Thanks for the patience and good reporting on this stuff, we'll be ironing issues out until they are gone or very tiny.
@Luis,
Yes, we noticed some thumbs going through the svn last night. As Chris mentioned, we'll be updating the build regularly. Goodbye thumbs and other extraneous files!

The falling down animation was created with the physics in Ecstasy (thanks for asking!) :-) You can save it out as a bvh, and then easily import that bvh into any second life avator by uploading it normally. (10$L)

We're listening to the masses, though! If there's a thousand more silent would-be Mac purchasers wishing we had a version for you, speak up now!
06/09/2009 (3:32 pm)
@Ronny: Sorry, I missed your post up there, man. Unfortunately, we don't have Mac or Linux support at this time... but both are on our list for the 1.0, for sure! Given the size of our team and the fact that none of us are devving in either OS (though I do run gentoo I'm not devving on Torque in it yet) we couldn't put together a Mac launch for EA. We're listening to the masses, though! If there's a thousand more silent would-be Mac purchasers wishing we had a version for you, speak up now!

(If you lose it, contact us and we'll set you up, though!)

Another note for purchasers: due to a hiccup with our protection scheme, whenever we change the engine and update it, it requires users to go back to their license and paste in the code again (in effect, re-register the program.) We apologize for the inconvenience and will attempt to fix this ASAP, in the meantime, hold on to that email from Intelli-protector!(If you lose it, contact us and we'll set you up, though!)

Have Mac, will buy in hopes of a near-future release (if I have the money!). It's just a shame to have to power on another computer, but the coolness of this tool seems worth it :)
Wish I could help, but I don't have T3D.
