Repentance: The Beginning

I hope to do two things with this, and other blogs to come. The first, to keep track of my thoughts on this project while providing some details of the same, and to not waste your time. With that said, let's begin.

Repentance: The beginning, is the title of the project I have been working on for some time. It will be an FPS styled game. I will be using our version (Frag Studios) of TGEA 1.8.1 which has numerous alterations. Repentance will be a horror styled game, and if I had to point to other games to convey it's mood would cross somewhere between Silent Hill, Doom, with a little FEAR mixed in for good measure.

This blog is the first, so I will start with early development. To begin.. the storyline. The story revolves around two themes. The first being that of a not so known recording some years back, and the Mayan calendar. The recording was something that was put out by a "geological group". They stated that in a mine shaft over 14 kilometers deep in Siberia, strange sounds were taped. When the tape was played back.. well.. lots of people screaming in agony.. torment.. you get the picture. The recording itself gave me the shivers, and I always had it in the back of my mind it would make an excellent plot for a game. The other aspect being the Mayan calendar, the game will be set approx. 1 week before December 21st, 2012. Those are the premises of the story. Other aspects I will delve into in other blogs.

I have a few pic's to show, all of which are taken in an editor, radiant specifically, so no lighting etc can be seen. In the next blog, I will have pics of these areas and more in game, but Since most of you are Dev's to one degree or another, I felt safe posting these in their current form. If you want to get an idea of how they will look lit.. here is a link to one of the hallways being used already in game.

I think I'll stop here. I really not the good at blogging. Anyway, here are some pics as well as an image I'm currently working on to be used at the beginning of the game. Be aware none of these areas are complete shown below. I hope you find this interesting, and would like any feedback.

Thanks, ~LK~

The geometry looks solid, but it's difficult to imagine them finished with no lighting :P. And don't forget coloured lights! White is boring and unflattering ;)

That looks awsome. But needs lighting :) Can i suggest it being dark with a bit black and Dark Blue. That will have heads spinning!

Thanks guys for the comments. Yes, it is hard to imagine without lighting, but that will come soon enough. I enjoy colored lighting as well, but in specific places, so yes I'll be using 4 main colored lights: Red, Blue, yellow, and white. As stated above, the base will be functioning on emergency power, which opens up a nice atmosphere for this styled game.. as well as the use of various colors. I just need to balance them. The general lighting (brightness) of the level is int he example in the link above. I can't wait to start adding the models in.

Ah, good old Radiant.
Nice environment ... very Aliens. A bit of well thought out lighting in-game and they'd be some atmospheric lightmaps.

Yea.. while I use Max and other programs, Radiant still has a special place for me. I should have the first levels lighting done by the end of the weekend. I'll put up a new blog when done.
