A Monster Free for Hobbists

by game4Rest · 05/09/2009 (9:38 pm) · 15 comments

This is from my previous project and his name is Azagthoth. As I came to a conclusion that it is not proper to my next project, which upgrades previous, I decided to open it to GG community.

If you're a hobbist, you're free to use it in any project.
If you want to use it in commercial products, please contact me.
You can reach me at hjuliett@empal.com
.

It worked pretty well in my game, but as always, you're free to use it at your own risk, and please don't complain me if you have some problem in your projects.

It has three LODs.
1st Level : 2,224 polygons
2nd Level : 1,806 Polygons
3rd Level : 1.379 Polygons

Also it has 7 animations. Those are,
attack1, attack2
damage, die, idle
run, spell

Here is a video link for ShowTool works.

That's quite nice of you, and it's an awesome model too! Is he named after a certain 7-string guitar player or is that just coincidence?

He looks good in Torque 3D too, even without a normal map or other materials. Texturing is real nice and clean -- I like it. My only suggestion would be that you add a "licensing/usage & contact" text file to the archive.

@Michael,
Thanks for your good words. I've no idea who the guitar players are. But I think they have good talent for naming ;-). I've added a kind of eula to the zip file as you advised.

@Something2Play,
Thank you.

@game4Rest: I would be interested in putting this in Soul Wars (http://www.soulwars.org/) ... please let me know what you would charge me.

Thanks.

@Quinton,
It would be honor for me if you choose mine. I'm thinking about $32(US dollor) for a commercial title. It will include Max files and you'll be allowed to modify it.

Thank you.

Ah, someone caught that reference ;) To make it extra coincidental I was listening to Morbid Angel at the time I read this blog and I was wondering why the name of the above demon sounded so familiar. Azathoth was a creation of Clark Ashton Smith, a friend of H.P. Lovecraft, but was also used in the Simon Necronomicon - a combination of the Sumerian "Azag" and the Coptic "Thoth" - but the guitarist in Morbid Angel goes by the name of Trey Azagthoth, it sounds cooler than George Emmanuel III.

@game4Rest: were you more influenced by Akaddian or Egyptian myths when you chose the name -- or is there still another source that I don't know of? Seeing the price that you quoted above for commercial usage and for the source art, I have to ask: have you considered creating any kind of content pack? Do you have any similar offerings? Because something of this quality would most likely sell as the price is concurrent with art available here and other places yet Azagthoth really stood out for me.

Ok, I'll quit asking questions and rambling now ;)

@Michael,
I made use of English to Latin dictionary to get this name. I cannot remember what was the combination for this result. I think I asked for the results for the words such as "Fire", "Revenge", "Ruthless", "Lava", "Lord", "Keeper" as I thought those words went well with him who has sad story and dreaming of revenge, has control of fire.
He was a first stage's boss monster in my previous project. He had lived a peaceful life in a deep mountain on a alien planet before being invaded by human beings. Humans destroyed his place and built a radar base there. He barely escaped from humans' first attack.
When he came back, he destroyed that area, where he loved so much, by expoding volcano lying under. Sounds not so funny? But I was serious when making that story. ha ha ha

[qoute]have you considered creating any kind of content pack? Do you have any similar offerings?[/qoute]
I'm afraid I don't have any. Even though I have few more 3d arts made by good talented artists, I just want to use them in my project exclusively.
Anyway, thanks for your positive comments. ;-)

It's interesting how different languages share some words and keep similar spellings. I like the back story to the character, it's very fitting.

I don't blame you for wanting to keep certain artwork exclusive to your own project, I'm much the same way myself -- but I'm also very tempted to purchase this one from you
