Journal Land Pick of the Week
Gaiiden's Scroll - this week's sitrep is my look back at GDC and what went good/bad/ugly/right/wrong/etc. Leave me feedback that I can take to the rest of the team on how you viewed our coverage this year! Your views and ideas are vital to us making things better for you, and I would very much like to hear what you took away from this year's coverage and how you'd like to see it improved. Be sure to at least read my thoughts on what we want to do next year to get an idea of the direction we're heading in.
Project Updates
* Happenings with VBStrider and Crew - In this week's newsletter, overall progress for the Loradon 3.0 Preview has reached 71%; More AABB struggles; Further progress from the artist's easle; the SAO community works to level up and stay friendly
* Under a ShadowyTree - Black Knight has a new version of Dark Age (v0.4.758) available for download
* Metaphorical Journeys of Happenstance - Ravuya has some final images from his racing game for class, looks forward to resuming work on Afterglow soon, and shares videos from another class project on rendering with a double-sided refraction method
* Saga City - sneakyrobot has some new screens and information about progress on his 2D robot side-scrolling shooter
* Level-Grind Online - JWalsh shares a 3D render of the entire terrain map for Level-Grind Online. Also, notice the snazzy new logo sported at the top of the journal. Very nice.
* Gauntlets of Recursion (+7) - HopeDagger has made some additional progress in his new isometric game project - creating some new artwork, deciding how the game content will be defined, and a bit of where it's all heading
* Reinvention and Further Development of the Wheel - staaf has some updates on Citizen, including allowing task switching, an audio manager, and proper video resolutions.
* Bennu - Demosthenes and his brother have submitted their game Bennu for playtesting to the Xbox Community Games - he shows off "box art" and several screenshots of the game.
Game Dev Stuffs
* Journal of Drew_Benton - Drew_Benton has been spending the last few weeks working on a UDP networking library and has posted some example code of the server/client and user API. Trying to understand it all makes me sad to see how much my network code skills have atrophied the past 8 years [sad]
* Ye Olde Ramblings - Telastyn found an article by one of the Magic card designers about three archetypes of Magic players they identified and catered to. Telastyn then took those three archetypes and applied them similarily to programmers
* On the path with a ramblin' man - jollyjeffers points out that Microsoft now has an official DirectX blog up and running over at MSDN
* Journal of AndyEsser - AndyEsser has converted his TGA image loader from VB 6 to C++ and shares the code
* Independent thoughts of PaulECoyote - paulecoyote links to industrybroadcast.com, which featured an earlier posting of his on the subject of Agile Vocabulary
