4/23/09 IRC Hour

Greetings Community! Every 3rd Thursday of a month we have an IRC Hour for the community.

Where Was It?:
Server: irc.maxgaming.net
Channel: #GarageGames

When Was It?:
3:00pm PST
(6:00pm EST)

When Was It, Again?:
3:00pm PST
(6:00pm EST)
I feel the need to post this twice for some people who keep forgetting.

What Was It?: IRC Hour is a chance for the community to have real-time talks with GarageGames employees and our site admin, David Montgomery-Blake. We will be using the GarageGames IRC channel hosted by MaxGaming OnLine.

What It Was Not: Debugging other people's code, marathon one-on-one help sessions, soap-box rants, etc.

The Agenda:

Torque 3D Updates (Beta, Pre-Order Forums, Documentation)
State of the Community
Success Stories

Community Suggestions: Torque 3D vs TGEA performance, Why Upgrade to Torque 3D?

Well, since you guys have these at a completely different time, I am now unable to attend at all. It's not a real big deal, just wanted to be a bit more involved. I was going to ask a bit more on TGB standings. I don't want to be a real drag on it, but I had hoped to hear a bit more about it. That's all. Maybe an update for the community on what is going on TGB Developement wise.

@Joseph - I'll let Deborah know about this.

@Stephen - We've been having them every 3rd Thursday for about 4 months now, and the past 5 sessions have been at 3:00pm (PST). Next IRC Hour I'll get a special guest to come in and talk about TGB.

Well I'm going to try and start taking my lunches directly at 3:00PST(I work 1:00CST - 10:00CST and 3:00PST is 5:00CST for me.)
I might just get a small netbook so I can jump on Wifi somewhere and get on IRC for it.
I'll see what I can manage. The IRC Sessions are about as close as I can get to GarageGames from Omaha NE. I'm sure some of the other guys here feel the same way too.

@Stephen... if you have web at work, try Mibbit. It's an http-based IRC. Works great and got through my work firewall fine.

I'd really rather not do it while I am at work. They would be a little touchy about me doing it there. Best to take it to place where I can get Wifi. Last time I was on it I was running IRC on my Mobile Phone, and while it does work, it was a bit small for me. Although my HTC Touch Pro and it's full keyboard worked good for typing on.

Oh, I just got another idea, considering how many things in the community are date based -releases, events, tests, IRC hours, etc.-, would be very useful to have a community calendar.

That way, GG could post events in it (and community members by request), and those suscribed to the calendar would be able to have clear info, also not depending on timezones convertions (Michael I hate you for keep using PST).

The good part is that Google Apps already has a Calendar, so you guys have already the structure to do it.

Hope anybody read this anyway, this blog is a few days old...
