GDNet: Weekly Sitrep

Hey if you have some free time and wouldn't mind a short and entertaining story, you can head over to my personal blog and read all about me getting arrested this past weekend. Promise it won't disappoint. Yes, I am now officially a hardened criminal in NYC, although I didn't get to beat anyone up in jail. The guy I shared the cell with was actually a decent fellow. I did do push-ups though, just in case I needed to beat the crap out of a new arrival.
I'm not joking.
Remembering Eric "Geta" Dybsand
5 years ago today saw the passing of a well-known and much-respected member of the game industry AI field, and also a long-time contributor to the GameDev.net community. For me, he was also a friend.
Eric "Geta" Dybsand was an active member here on GDNet, helping out many folks in the Game AI forums over the years, while he worked in the industry as an AI programmer and consultant. He also organized and led many sessions and roundtables at the Game Developers Conference. You can learn more about Eric at his IGDA Memorials page.
If you're looking into charitable contributions this year, I would recommend the IGDA Foundation, which has an annual memorial scholarship set up in Eric's name. The scholarship sends a student to the GDC each year to mingle with AI professionals in the industry.
The staff at GDNet raise a toast today to Eric and his legacy.
Adobe Week
So you may have noticed something... interesting happening on the front page. John Hattan and Kelly Murdock are both banging on the keyboards and churning out a whole bunch of Adobe product reviews this entire week. Here's the whole lineup, with currently-published reviews all linked up:
* Illustrator CS4
* Dreamweaver CS4
* Que's 'On Demand' Tutorial Series
* Flash CS4
* Photoshop CS4
* Dreamweaver CS4 Unleashed
* Fireworks CS4
* Flex and Flex Builder
* Soundbooth CS4
Facebook and Twitter updates
The staff wants to hear from everyone how you want to see the Facebook and Twitter pages used to post updates. Check them both out (unless you're already a Fan or Follower) and see how they've been utilized so far.
Twitter was setup during GDC as a way to live-blog sessions. It worked pretty well for me, 140 character limit notwithstanding. Getting the rest of the staff onboard will take a bit of time, seeing as not all are habitual twitterers. Mainly I'm interested to hear how you'd like to see the feed used during normal site operations. Should we post updates of new articles? Notification of when a GDNet Daily or similar News feature goes up?
Same with Facebook. What would you like to see?
GDNet Daily poll
I just closed out a poll that was running for the past week and a half regarding the Daily GameDev.net feature. You can see the results over in this thread and comment on what you think of the Dailys there as well. Looking forward to hearing some thoughts.

I mean.. cops used to be nice and helpful in the States. When I was jaywalking, they'd come over, and warn me, but in a friendly manner. When they learned that I was from Europe, they became even more friendly, and probably more forgiving. That was in the 90s. Things had changed I guess.

Great story Drew. Still, this is alarming. (no pun intended :)I mean.. cops used to be nice and helpful in the States. When I was jaywalking, they'd come over, and warn me, but in a friendly manner. They're paranoid as hell up in NYC now. 9/11 changed everything.
