Re-Shape the online world.

by AG Interactive · 03/30/2009 (7:33 pm) · 19 comments

Its easy to create an online game (Not really). But to shape the online world into a whole different world, now thats hard. The base of online world is simple.

You put what comes to mind in a sense. What if there was an online game to where every server there was 1,400 player skirmish or deathmatch. Is it possible? Yes, it is very possible.

The whole point of this game is to be a massive online none stop war. My intention was to make this game a team civil war. As in you can betray your own team, or you can be spy for the other team.
I never thought it would be this beautiful. But the problem is how am I going to pull this of with 50 member workin on this. It may and it will take years to complete task.

That is all I have from GDC 09. I still need some programers and 3d artist for this program. We also did get a pretty accurate release date, and what platforms it will be on.

The games release date will be Q2/2017, now thats a very long time for a game to be on lockdown, but trust me the wait is worth it...
Its will also be release on the PS4 no word on anyother consoles/platforms.

Thanks,

You may want to fix that screenshot soon...Host it on imageshack.us and tag the link, you can't do it straight from your My Pictures folder.

I was like.. 2017.. wow. Long time. But then I saw: Q2.

I have trouble saying a quarter exact release date for this year even, let alone 8 years from now! :) Nice planning!

Thanks, this plan was so that we complete this very hard task at hand... But there will be an exact date later down the road.

I would say that the odds of Duke Nuke'em getting released are higher than and independent team staying together and working on a project for 8 years. Anyway, good luck you are gonna need it.

But what youare describing is already being produced and 2 such title will be released this year Global Agenda and Huxley. Both have spend several years. And I know at least 20 million of private capital has gone into Global Agenda. The chances you guys staying afloat or together and working on the same project for 8 years without similar funding is seriously unrealistic. If you cant make it in less than 4-5 "About the longest dev cycles in the industry today" Then things prolly just aren't gonna happen.

Not to mention you guys may want to consider actually getting a license and starting work on the engine before getting such a grand change the world plan.

Interesting. You said earlier that you'd be in a booth with a bunch of computers, yet the West Hall was devoted to recruiting purposes exclusively, and looking at the floorplan (here), and going from memory as I walked the entirety of that hall three times, I don't remember seeing you there.

Could you be a dear and pointedly say which booth you were in? Keep in mind that of the empty booths on that map, I recall 413 as being Lucas Arts, 522 being dedicated to recruiting by a company/university that I forget, and 725 as being empty.

I find your statements really very interesting, especially since it should be technically feasible in the next year or so to have, in theory, mass FPS games (especially since I'd heard anecdotes of TGE supporting over a hundred players per game some time ago, and things haven't gotten any less efficient). The only twist you offer is taking away the blocking code for shooting your own team members (spying isn't even an in-game mechanic- it's a function of who you're talking to on Ventrilo while you play). So with 50 people working on it, you should probably be shooting for a 2010 release (Q2 would be fine).

So I have questions:

- What engine are you using?
- If making an online game is easy (not really), then why the 2017 release date?
- If you have 50 people working on the game, then how much of that is dedicated to content, and how would those people know what kind of content to create for a game that is going to be released in 2017 when the hardware standards and software tools aren't even specified yet?
- If you had a booth at GDC as you contend, why no website?
- Exactly where was that booth? Since I spent an hour or two in West Hall and only saw either AAA Games, Universities, Vendors such as nVidia, or recruiters with booths? After all, it was the hall set up for industry recruiting, not for showing off games with release dates 8 years from now...

Hmmm...

yes especially considering that booths are usually in the tens of thousands of dollars for a 10x10 spot at those kinda shows I find it highly unlikely that someone making these kind of wild statement could afford such a thing. Especially on that is not working with a publisher. And said part was working with a publisher that was forking tout that kind of money for a booth they would want a game in under 2 years.

@James

I have a couple of publisher in mind, I havent talked to any.... But why cant we publish it? Sure we are not SCE who can publish there own games at will. Take WarDevil for instance they had there booth setup since 2004 if im correct, its 09 now and its still not out.

@Ted

On the left you can see nEO, if you can you may want to blow up the document.

The engine we are using is "3DStyle".

The 2017 release is just like anyother long release, because every software we use is in beta form or technology isnt were you need it. The playstation home project started in 1997, at this moment its far from release because its still a beta. Beside game developement will be quicker than 8 years, actually the game is reliable enough release in 1 year. We choose 8 because we need software and hardware to control it.

Did that... Don't see a nEO, nor do I see CO)... Got a booth number? I have no problem eating my words if you can give me a booth number.

Proprietary, or is there a website for it? I ask because Google only comes up with what you would get if you entered it as "3D Style", which brought OGRE3D up as the closest match.

You choose eight years instead of one? That makes absolutely no sense. If it's ready to go in 1 year, then you should have the hardware and software to "control" it already, because if you've done testing with it, then you would have had to make at least some progress on server tech.

If I could choose for my own project, I'd choose 1 instead of 8...
