Game Developers Conference - 2009

Hey folks. I'm sitting in the Moscone center after the first day of GDC 2009 letting the beer and food settle.

So far, I've been looking around and have only see one person I know. I talked to Davey Jackson for a few minutes this morning before we went to our separate tracks (Davey to Education and myself to the Indie track).

If you're here or will be here, please take a moment to examine my picture here and keep your eyes open for me. I hope to meet as many folks as I can.

(Orion reminded me that we no longer have photos on our profiles, so if you want to learn more about me and see my picture, you can go here. Or you can just peek at my photo at the end of this entry. Hope to see you at GDC.)

Meanwhile, if you've been trying to reach me or waiting for a response to an e-mail, please be aware that I've been in Hawaii the last two weeks on the North Shore of Oahu, well away from even the strongest wireless connection. I'll start catching up as soon as GDC is over. Please bear with me.

Lastly, I'm currently working on some products that line up with my "What Would You Ask For?" blog. I'll be making a more detailed announcement about them at the end of GDC. I'm only mentioning them now because I'm currently in the beta stage on them and am considering doing a pre-sale beta program, where folks could pre-order the products and get beta versions. These folks could then get the products early (probably at a reduced price) and have the opportunity to provide feedback and influence the final design. I'm keen to get folks input and I want these products to shine. This seems to me to be a good way to go about it. My question is, "Would you consider buying a beta-product if you could get it at a reduced price and influence the end product with your own ideas and feedback?"

Please let me know.

Meanwhile, cheers and I hope to see you if you're at GDC.

I have already done that several times, so the answer would be yes. But it would have to be an established company with a history of delivering on its products.

For some reason I am just downright picky with my money:)

Make sure you swing by the booth this week Ed. It will be great to meet you for the first time =)

I look forward to your take on the Indie track. I was only able to attend a couple of the sessions last year.

hey Ed, don't forget that the new GG site no longer has pictures in our profiles, so you might want to provide a photo elsehow.

I recently moved to Unity3D to start doing development for the iPhone. I'd love to come back to Torque having been a TGE owner for more years than I can remember. Maybe Torque 3D will be the reason. See you guys at GDC.

Glad that I got to see you at GDC yesterday. I thought the Indie Games Summit at GDC was really good. I thought there was a lot of useful information given. And, of course, there was some that was not as useful as others. But that is to be expected. Almost all of the sessions were packed to overflowing with people standing next to the walls.

@Randy - Thanks for the input. You can find out more about me here, if you're curious.

@Perry - I'll see you there.

@Orion - Dang! You're right. I forgot. I'll update my post in a sec!

@Richard - I'm sure I speak for many others when I say, you're always welcome back to the community! Whatever your choice, best of luck on your project.

@Jeff - Hey thanks! I got your e-mail too and I really appreciate the info. That Eskil character was a real kick (very smart).

Cheers All! Hope to see you on the floor of the Expo.
