Very excited about T3D

Reinvention is hard, and GG have had to deal with a lot of criticsm in the last two months. I'm posting to congratulate them - for what it's worth, I believe that we're seeing some great decision making in action.

GG have said that they're no longer happy with the level of features they can do at the current price point, and have boldly said that they're going to increase the cost and increase the functionality. I'm done being concerned about the loss of the $100 engine - I'm just excited that as a studio who can afford $1000, I'm going to be getting some seriously exciting features in an engine I'm already an expert in. Not only that, but with pre-ordering and the TGEA upgrade path I can get it for $500, which is helping to make me feel special for having been a part of the community for so long.

Finally, I think getting Tribes 1 onto IA is an absolutely massive deal for the other half of the office, which can't help but be good for everyone.

2009 is the start of the new GG - and I'm hugely excited to be here.

Second!
;)

TGE/A were absurdly good value but I'm sure that trying to create and utilise modern tech isn't cheap. Sure I'd like it cheaper (who wouldn't!?) but you've got to be realistic about input costs.

I'm not in a position to really afford a straight $1K, (one guy, in his bedroom, trying to make games), but I can just about scrape $505 together.

Future keeps coming...

Now, here's to hoping that GarageGames is as understanding, decisive, and forward thinking in the future! There's a lot of passionate people coming and going here, expressing discontent and even some excessive praise. I feel that things are looking good for Torque, GarageGames, and for all of us too.

GG still has Torque Game Builder which they can offer as a starting point for folks getting into game development. It's still $100. I think though they should lower the price for TGE 1.52 to $100 to make it easy to get into 3D Game Development as well.

Thanks Ian! I'm glad we've still got good vibes all around. We're definitely going to try to make Torque 3D an even better value than TGEA, despite the higher price tag.

I agree totally with you Ian. It is a great step for the company and the technology.

Am in same situation as Steve (solo guy having a little fun making games in my room) - haven't been with torque for long and classes haven't yet let me explore it properly, but am really happy with what i have gotten from experimenting with TGEA and excited about what's expected from Torque 3D

The $500 on pre-order for TGEA owners cut is really a huge deal to me. Right now $1000 is just too much for me but $505, well, am pretty confident i can get that.

Both thumbs up GG :)

Excited here too. Roll on GDC, can't wait to see those demos in action.

And the word "Undercity" is tantalizingly mysterious. :D
