Hey GG'ers!
I wanted to take a moment and point each of you to the new TGEA engine profile on DevMaster.net.

DevMaster maintains a database of 3D game engines for developers. As registered users, you can log in and provide your own review of any engine on the site. The TGEA profile is brand new, and it would be great if those you who have used TGEA out there would share your experience with the DevMaster community by writing a review.
The last 12 months have been huge for us. What started with a modest set of updates announced in January 2008 turned into the fastest period of evolution in Torque's history, all culminating in TGEA winning the 2008 Game Developer Front Line Engine Award. Behind that is an extremely talented, hard-working team, and I'm really proud of what they've accomplished. The best part is that they're not slowing down. They're actually moving faster than every rocking now on Torque 3D.
Take a quick trip back through the past year + with TGEA...
Big Update to TGEA on the way!

Help us spread the word and let's bring a renewed energy to game development with Torque in 2009 with some new blood. We're off to an awesome start, but in the end, it's you guys that really make GG special and make people want to join the Torque community.

It's where I first heard about Torque as well. DevMaster has been a valuable resource for me. I gave a review in 07 for TGEA.. I suppose I should update it with more recent info though. ~LK~

mmmm, where exactly is that? wasnt that removed after 1.5.2?
"• Built-in physics engine Sample Implementations for major 3rd party physics libraries: PhysX, Bullet, ODE"
built in is it? really? like there are Sample Implementations of physx, ode in the sdk download? must have missed that.
c'mon guys, with all the "updates", "new features", and "T3D" comming soon, maybe someone could be a bit more realistic about what there is, and isn't.
sorry if thats not what you want to hear, but better here than there.

This is our Engine and its very poorly rated over at DevMater.net!!
If I was a brand new Game Developer and found DevMaster I would defenetly not go with TGEA even if it was free!
I would probably go with TV3D, C4, or any of the other engines found on DevMaster. TGEA is the only engine in the commercial Section that gets a 3 star community rating!
Actually even though I own TGEA I almost feel like going out and buying another engine I mean check out some of these reviews
-Editors are not stable. Many simple tasks will crash the engine or produce unexpected results. No orthographic viewport for world editing.-
-The standard work flow of TGEA is quite poor. It may be passable for hobbyists but certainly not adequate when time is money and your staff is wasting time with external tools in a vein attempt to efficiently bring content into the engine.-
-Documentation? It´s big pain of all garagegames.
Easy of use??? No no no ... I dont know who made this, but he never saw a good engine. THIS IS VERY UFRIENDLY.
Scripting?? Whaaat a big joke.
If you want to do a simple things in a hard way than this is right choise.
If you really want to do some games without so much pain you shuld try some other engines-
Yes there are a few good reviews but compared to all the bad people are saying about it uh uh!

Come on people.. DevMaster is NOT a place to vent your neglected feelings.

... jesus, I think the star rating has actually dropped since users from here started going over there. Come on people.. DevMaster is NOT a place to vent your neglected feelings.

We've got a lot of users. Tens of thousands. So, it's not surprising to see some loud, vocal, negative voices here. I just hope that those of you who really do like using TGEA and appreciate what we're doing to keep improving it, will share your opinions as well so we can keep the community growing and see new talented people making great games with it.

It seems like most of the complaints are around the listed features...some of this does need editing / clarification...it's just stuff that got lost in the shuffle when we updated the site...that's when actually submitted this new profile. In any case, please provide a review of your experience using TGEA, not a review of the nitty gritty feature spec. We've got a lot of users. Tens of thousands. I threw my 2 cents in yesterday. TGEA isn't perfect, but it's the best of the bunch. C4 and the like may have better reviews, but not much in the way of finished games, which makes the validity of those reviews a little on the questionable side.

I also did a review, except my name's not displayed for some reason.
Anyway, you shouldn't worry much about what they write there. If someone knows what they are looking for, and its not along the lines of Game Maker (Commodore 64) then they will also know how to distinguish between reliable reviews and those that were made out of frustration.
Most of that frustration comes from taking on too much to create the bEst g4mE eVAR!!11!
Don't worry about it. There's not much you could do anyway.. it seems the harder we try to get things right again, the harder others try to lower the score.

It's the hidden Make My Game Button that does it. They know it must be there, but they can't find it!

It's a pity. I find TGEA outstanding! Nobody said creating a game was going to be easy.

The problem is that people will rather go out of their way to write negative, while the happy people don't mostly writes nothing. With "Tens of thousands" of users you're gonna get more negative posts than positive ones. It's a pity. I find TGEA outstanding! Nobody said creating a game was going to be easy.

Maybe you should create a new entry for Torque 3D, but as a new user (who hasn't touched TGEA or Torque 3D yet) I can tell you it's really bad publicity ;-)

In any case, I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts.

You guys think this is worth doing for Torque 3D? Barely anyone from here posted on Devmaster, but those that did (3-4 since this blog) were pretty venomous. I think that's lame, especially when a product like Unity has almost universally positive reviews. I get that people like it, but TGEA has about 5-10x the number of active developers as Unity, and many of them are cranking out quality commercial games. In any case, I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts.

I wouldn't bother, though. At least not until T3D has been out a while post-beta. I think the combination of a lot of people still being bitter over the long road it has taken for TGEA to get to where it was promised, agitation over the new licensing prices for T3D, and the fact that few people can honestly give a valid appraisal of T3D at this point, pretty much guarantees that most of the reviews will be the same crap right now.

I'm not sure why that's happening, but because of this, I'm not sure whether you should waste any time on DevMaster.Net at all. You might find it prestigious, but with this sort of crap, that's going to change sooner or later.
For Torque3D, no reviews is better than the bitching, low point reviews and inaccurate criticism from people who probably never even tried to work with the engine. And like Gerald said, it will end up just like TGEA, make no mistake about it.
There are tons of fans from other engines - hell, I see them even here "spreading the word" occasionally - and kids who expect that well-known one button, and become frustrated when they find out that it's absent.
The DevMaster.Net community is just too tenuous and immature from what I've seen. I think you guys should be avoiding them all together, and if you can, you should take off your existing engine profiles at least until Torque3D makes the GG brand trendy with the kidos.
Pathetic, I know, but that's how I see this.

Gerald / Konrad: I know guys, didn't mean to paint you with that brush too. On the whole though, it's pretty negative. That's what I was reacting to. Appreciate the input though guys. I'll probably follow that advice.
