Plan for Justin Mette

Introduction

A great milestone has been reached in that 21-6 has completed the first phase of Myrmidon development. This release is all about technology additions to TGE that support the Myrmidon game design. Features like dynamic mission elements, object selection, an off-terrain safe area, enhanced camera system, and some UI features (compass, options dialog, etc). Our goal with this first phase was to simply get used to TGE and implement a few of the base features of Myrmidon along the way. With the completion of this phase, we can honestly say that the TGE is everything we had hoped for and are very excited to get started on the next phase.


Myrmidon Artwork

Concept Art Some great concept work was released this past week by Don, Kierston, and Lucas. The artwork included more Myrmidon action shots, body armor ideas, the research station, and the moon surface. We are very close to choosing a theme for a Myrmidon from the many different ideas presented so far, at which time more detailed renderings and models can be created.

Screen Shots Some screen shots of the current Phase One release were taken this past week and placed in the image gallery. The screen shots try to capture the work done in this release even with programmer art :)


Myrmidon Design

Combat Some recent drawings by Kierston, which show Myrmidon using both guns and swords/shields, raised a serious discussion about how combat was going to work. One side of the discussion is that Myrmidon weapons only consist of guns and the other is a more melee based approach. We are currently working on an idea that is a compromise between the two and should prove entertaining for many players if it can be balanced properly.

Design Document - We are working hard to flesh out the design document and bring it up-to-date with the current vision.


Myrmidon Development

Bug Fixing A few more bugs were found and a few were fixed. For the most part, the release is in good shape with only minor issues remaining. We deemed this version stable enough to release as Phase One since it is really only a technology demo and will only be released to those who ask.

Help System Content was completed for the help system in Phase One. The help describes the new features implemented over the past 8 weeks.


Next Week

It's time to start planning out Phase Two of Myrmidon development. That's one of the top priorities for next week but will also be accompanied by progress on incorporating 21-6 in Colorado. The first draft of the project plan should be completed by the end of the week along with appropriate research (and a lawyer appointment) in regards to incorporation.

Congrats! I've written up a "Phase plan" similar to yours, based on your example. Your .plans are very exciting to read, as they're organized and show actual progress. Keep up the good work! Only suggestion I would give is that you should take some time to get very basic things down, like the problem you ran into with what kind of weapons the myrmidons use. You might run into a very basic thing like that and discover you did not code things accordingly. Just my 2cents. ;) Good luck!

Another great .plan from Justin Mette. I always look forward to these. You're one of the few teams on here I've seen who seem to be well-organized and professional about this. I look forward to seeing what the future holds.
