3D Action Adventure Kit - Now Available

The anticipated 3D Action Adventure Kit Demo is now available for download at www.ubiqvisuals.com.
The 3D Action Adventure Kit is a great foundation for aspiring game designers to create their own adventure games. It provides all
the necessary building blocks to create adventure games such as Mario Galaxy, Shadow of the Colossus, ICO, and Zelda. The flexible
camera system will also allows the creation of 2D platforming games like Little Big Planet and fixed camera games like
God of War, Metal Gear Solid, and Devil May Cry.
* Overhauled player functionality allows players to walk, run, jump, slide, climb surfaces, climb up ledges, hang and move along ledges
* Variable walk/run speeds (with analog), and variable jump length
* New camera system including an intelligent follow camera, manual orbit camera, constrained axis camera, and a path follow camera
* Camera-relative player controls
* New character model with 26 unique animations
* 44 new player sound effects
* Complete Demo Level with over 80 .dif models
* Full tutorials and documentation covering character animation, level design, sound engineering, and camera implementation.
The goal of the 3D Action Adventure kit is to assist in the education of game design by providing the tools necessary allowing
learners to grow through hands-on learning and prototyping. Game design is a complex skill requiring hours of creation and
experimentation. This tool provides the framework necessary to start the hands-on learning immediately.
Thank you to everyone in the Garage Games Community for providing us feedback during the development of this kit. We look forward to seeing what everyone can do with it!

The licensing works as follows:
You must purchase a copy of the 3DAAK ($495) for each programmer who will be working with the code. This license grants you full access to the source-code to make your game. You may also release your game for free under this license.
If you wish to sell/publish your game (for profit), then you'll be required to purchase a Commercial License for $4,995. The commercial license is per title published (not per seat). So for example, if you sell 2 games using the kit, you'll need 2 commercial licenses.
I hope that makes it clear.

And is it 1.8.1 compatible too (says 1.7.1, but that is on the minimum reqs)?

@ Lorne: Awesome I've been waiting for this kit a long time! Great job, I have 2 questions though. On the website it says Maya for the source animation files, do you have them exported to anything else (max, xsi, or milkshape?)And is it 1.8.1 compatible too (says 1.7.1, but that is on the minimum reqs)?

Good Luck with this product, it looks very nice. I guess since I thought 495.00 was a little to much for it.. obviously I won't be getting it for it's real price of 5k either lol. Even though I think the price is.. interesting.. I sincerely think you did a great job.

It looks like a interesting kit. But $495 ? I think that is going to knock out alot of your potential buyers. Now if it was a T3D Addon then yeah thats more possible but as is current I wouldn't see alot of the indie / hobbie TGEA being able to fork that out for so little. Just my opinion.

Now if your kit did more than just the grappling then maybe, but...
You only have cameras which we have resources to do ourselves.
You have grappling which someone recently wrote a resource for, which can be built upon. What else is in the kit that is worth the price?
Seriously, after playing the demo I did not see anything that would suggest that I was getting a complete game kit. If it was a complete kit for that price I would expect all of the following already in it working, a Save/Load system, an Inventory System with GUI, some type of scoring system, etc.

@Lorne, Wow what a sticker price shock! You've got to be kidding.Quote:*****if you wish to sell (for profit) a game using this kit, you will be required to upgrade to a Commercial License for $4995.

Congrats guys. Looks like quite a bit of work in there. For the dev team that picks up this pack to run it commercially, I doubt there will be many, but if their profit from the retail of the pack far exceeds the price paid, then I'm sure it will be worth it.

thank you

I think this is definitely worth the $495 price tag, I paid $1$$$ for just the camera and some other contract work that came no where close to the professional work that went into this kit. I hope their will be a T3D version and a expansion pack with an add cover system/Roodie Run and Resident Evil 4/Gears of War camera add on. Great pack please release this for T3D once it is on the market.thank you

I already own the SSOA and Depth Kits for 80 bucks, and most of the stuff in kit asset (DIFs and such) will have to be replaced anyway with original content.. and 99% of the items here.. are free resources.. Sorry.
02/23/2009 (7:30 pm)
hey, Kory, your not reading it properly. Thats 495 for the kit, and 4995 to publish 1, thats One game.. so unless you plan on making back the money, not counting the other money.. of course if your already paying commercial rates and make more then 250k then this would i guess seem like peanuts.. for alot of folks.. this is a bit out of our league, sorry ill wait to see what T3d costs and compare the 2.I already own the SSOA and Depth Kits for 80 bucks, and most of the stuff in kit asset (DIFs and such) will have to be replaced anyway with original content.. and 99% of the items here.. are free resources.. I know this Kit is $4$$$ for Commercial License and doesn't come with the Depth of Field/Ambient Occlusion but it does have a hands-on learning and prototyping if you have the money, but I understand what you are saying, that is a high price for Indie gamers but if they add the add on expansion pack which i mention on my first post I will buy just speaking for myself.
thank you

Lookin' good. I'll have to wait to get this one, too, but I think it's probably worth the price.

I thought 495 was abit too much, but 5000 is definetely way off my radar.
Good luck to you though, i hope you can recoup the investment in it and we can see a few more great packs from ubiq.
Whats next in the pipeline ?

Its a great pack but i was expecting it to be more in line with your previous works. I understand ALOT more work probably went into this product though so i can see why its priced fairly high.I thought 495 was abit too much, but 5000 is definetely way off my radar.

I am excited to see this come out. It looks as though your work is very high quality.
I agree with Julian - even if there's just a handful of studios that pick this up, I think some great games could come out if it.
I'm tempted to scrap our current project and work on some GOW3 ;) Best of luck!

Would you consider an indie price similar to GG's structure for a studio not making 250K+? I am excited to see this come out. It looks as though your work is very high quality.

It looks great, but as others have pointed out, most of this stuff is availible on the free resources, and nearly all the models will need to be replaced by original content :(
02/23/2009 (10:44 pm)
WOW!!! don't you think that's VERY expensive, like i know that a lot of work went into this, but for a hobbyist (like me and many users of TGE/A) it is out of reach for us :(It looks great, but as others have pointed out, most of this stuff is availible on the free resources, and nearly all the models will need to be replaced by original content :(

Please please reconsider the price!
02/23/2009 (10:52 pm)
Your kit is great looking, but for 4$$ I'd expect models for not only maya, but for max also, and a lot more content then what you've offered. I mean the other packs clocked in at 1$$ compared to the fps kit that had all the vehicles and scripts for helicopters and ctf, it just seams that this long wait for the adventure kit was suddenly walled by an uncomfortable price. Plus when the price of publishing being 4$$$ is more than the TSEA itself, there is something wrong here 8(Please please reconsider the price!

I wish you luck and I'm really impressed with your work but I do wish you'd reconsider that price for indies, few of us can afford that.
02/23/2009 (11:47 pm)
Got to echo the other guys here, I really want to pick this pack up but there is no way I'd pay more than the cost of the actual game engine for it!I wish you luck and I'm really impressed with your work but I do wish you'd reconsider that price for indies, few of us can afford that.
