First Day as GarageGames Employee!!

by Melv May · 02/02/2009 (11:07 am) · 37 comments

Well, it finally happened. Today is the first day working as an employee for GarageGames!

Cue cheesy staged shot of me in my "office" wearing my new GG hoodie:

... and the great news is that I no longer have to spend hours travelling to work which is great especially considering that today we woke to a snow-covered UK:

As you may know, I'll be working full-time on the Torque Game Builder. That's great news for me and even better for the community of existing TGB owners.

Anyway, that's it for today and from now on I'll do my best to post up regular blogs as the TGB development ramps-up.

EDIT: If any of you have a FaceBook account then please come join me. I have a FaceBook account "Melv May". Also, I've created a group called "Torque Game Builder". Come join me there!

All the best everyone,

Melv.

Great news Melv, which one is your office, the one on the left or the one on the right of the picture? 8) I'd like to see another picture later on today with a snowman built, wearing that GG top! You just got to love snow.

Woot on the TGB development! Congrats.

Could you buy a few more monitors with your next check ? I can't bear the thought that you're only using 4(laptop included).

Cheers and I can't wait to see what you pull together.

Exsqueeze me! How big are those monitors on your desk?

Yeah, I have a bit of a screen real-estate addiction. Those are two Dell 30" 3008 WFP monitors. The one at the back is a 27" Dell WFP.

It means I have 2560x1600 to play with on each screen which comes in handy when you want lots of source-code on the screen at the same time. It's also nice to run TGB on one screen and still have lots of stuff open on the other.

Melv, can you try this?

Platformer.zip

You will see that version 1.7.3 is running fine but version 1.7.4 has some problems.

As a guy who finally got around to using TGB and now uses it everyday with purpose, I'm extremely excited about your new job ;)

Thomas,

It'd be best if you sent me an email for this or post it on the forums. Could you send me the scripts you're using? A lot of the platformer problems I've seen is that certain hacks to get stuff working now actually cause problems, maybe this is what is happening here or perhaps there is a problem, I don't know.

Congrats Melv, I hope seeing blogs with the tgb's roadmap like the Brett's series on T3D.

That's what I'd hope to. Because I've just started, the idea is to get things ramping up first and then start announcing what's coming. Doing a blog like Bretts would be cool.

Melv,

Seeing you sitting in that tanning salon you call an office makes me very excited to know that the future of TGB is secure.

Thanks for all the hard work so far and I can't wait to see what you guys come up with next!

Thanks everyone!

@Patrick: Now that you mention it, it does look a little warm in there. It's the yellow lamp shade, I really must change it!

@Thomas: Cool, thanks. Did you manage to post-up the scripts?
