Farewell Freebies

by Tom Feni · 01/25/2009 (10:03 am) · 19 comments

So I have decided that the time is right to bid farewell to a great community while I still harbor goodwill to said community :)
I think I may have sounded a bit crazy with the writing on the wall and what not.. So I removed that. I mean to say GG's is changing and I am not sure how I feel about it yet. Also my wife and I are expecting our 4th and last child, and I doubt I will have alot fo time to keep up with changing diapers, feedings, work and all the other things I do and find time to keep up work on Toby Turtle.
So I will release some of the assets I created over the last two years to the community, to repay some off the help I have received over the last 7 years. So here is the first freebie Gui Freebie It consists of various gui buttons set up to use highlight, down, null. They may or may not fit in your gamestyle, but could be useful as placeholders. Some are transperant and others are buttons. I also included some number sets for using with score gui's.

enjoy,

TomFeni

Hey Tom, sorry to see you go... snap...my 4th due any day now... if there is anything I can do to keep things going for you on gaming, or a place for your games until you decide to come back.. let me know...7 years of gaming would be a shame to just give it all up. PS. Your link did not work.

Sorry, fixed link. I was using the wrong ftp site.

I appreciate the comments, and I will be playing around with Toby some, But I wont be upgrading to the new engine and I wont be posting anything new. I just wont have the time to keep up anymore. I do want to get some of the stuff I have laying around uploaded and given out so others can utilize it. Alot of it is learning art and code. Nothing ground breaking or revolutionary. I wont be relaesing Toby Turtle core assets. Ie player model or some other sensitive things that I myself created and is Toby Related.
But some things like shapes and interiors that I am not using for Toby I will release, along with textures.

Again, the link should work now and thanks.

Good for you to get out now. Some of us are perpetual optimists, and always stick around even though "the writing is on the wall." Congrats on the new child, and good luck in your future endeavors...and thanks for the freebie. :)

Oh now I can only post one blog per day now so here is the second freebie. I will just post all of them here so you may want to either click the box for updates or bookmark this blog. So if it goes down the line you will still see new posts.
*I doubt it will be stickied.. :)

Here are most of the scripts I have from my game, some are usable, some are scripts I tried but didnt get to work. Free Scripts
I know some have asked for theses scripts before and I apoligize for not getting back sooner. I have been rather busy with work and life.
I hope this helps you also with your singleplayer game ideas.

Hopefully it will give you some ideas and help learn a little bit.
This is the 2nd freebie and I will posting 3 more containing Shapes, interiors, and gui scripts.

Well I decided to release all my Interiors from the last 2 years of working on Toby. They are in .map and .rmf format including all textures and the .wad file.
The file is over 21 mbs in size. Free Interiors
Yours free to edit, mangle or whatever you choose to do.
You will have to recompile them if you dont want to use the turtleTextures folder. They are tied to that folder as it is.

Still working on the next 2 freebies and they may take longer to get ready so maybe this week, unless I am at the hospital.

Hey Tom, I've got five kids, but I'm way ahead of you in age ( range from 13 to 23). I definitely know it can be challenging, but don't be a stranger completely! Poke your head out (Toby Turtle reference) around here once in a while, just to say hey.

How close is Toby the Turtle to being complete? If you're that close I can think of four reasons right off the top of my head to keep it going even on the back burner. =)

If you end up wanting to release it in some form or another as a compete game, let me know. I think it's another example of what I'd like to feature on indiegameshop.com.

Good luck in all your endeavors

Wow Tom. Congrats on #4. (I have 3 myself. wasn't suicidal enough to try for 4) :-D

Thanks for the freebies. I know the community will appreciate them. I can mirror them if you like with the rest of my torque mirrored things. Just let me know.

I wish you well in which ever direction you take in life. Like has already been said, pop your head in from time to time. (we don't bite....hard)

Thanks Everyone, and @ mike, I guess its ok if you want to mirror the files.

@ Tom B. So long friend, maybe if I get a late night minute or two I may jump on Mirc and see whats what..

@ all Toby will live on for now.. I would love to see him out there in the world, at least being played once or twice by the public at large.

Sucks to see you go man. Toby had a ton of potential. It's crazy nice of you to release what you have for use by the community. Thank you. I hope you won't totally give up on game development, but I can understand a reset of priorities at this point in your life.

I wish you the best of luck in all you do.
