TBS Starter Kit- Hexagons

by Krystian Lahage · 01/15/2009 (8:21 pm) · 8 comments

Hey everyone, I just finished some tiles for the TBS Starter Kit, and was hoping to get some critisism and suggestions. The image on the top left is an overhead view of a demo gameboard, the top right is a 3D view, and the bottom right is a diagram of the various terrain pieces. Note that these are the demo pieces and are subject to change, I will be adding a water tile, forest tile, mountain tile, and possibly a dirt tile.

Why Use Hexagons?:
Why use hexagons? Because they make the game progress faster, and keep it more interesting. As the diagram on the bottom left shows, the blue rectangle, thats our guy, can attack any of the guys on hexagons next to him.

What's Next?:
Next, I plan to finish a few more tiles, and possibly some units. Also based on the comments and suggestions I get on this blog, I will alter the current pieces.

PS: We're still recruiting a scripter that is capable of coding a TBS type gameboard, and TBS movement and combat. Email at PickledStudios@aol.com.

Alas your images are lost as the site is going through a bit of a renovation. May I suggest external links/hosting.

On topic, I would welcome a Turn Based Stratergy system. It's a shame that such a tactical, thought inducing system gets such short shrift in these days of high octane action.

In fact the only game currently on my PC is the old (and free to download) Steel Panthers.

Back to topic, which Torque product are you planning on using for this? TGB, TGE or TGEA? Or as I should probably say 2D or 3D?

Dang it! Your images just showed up and edit is as of yet unuseable.

TGE I take it then, as the tiles appear 3D.

oh man hexagons are the absolute shiznit! That hearkins back to Circa 1981 when I first heard about Gary Gygax. He died last year at 69 years of age. But those hexagons stir old fossils like me, like nothing these new fangled games could possibly touch.

Yes, it will be based on TGE, and by the way, are the images visible now?
