Depth of Field for Sale - Ubiq Visuals

After many requests from the Garage Games community Ubiq Visuals has decided to publish a Depth of Field Shader! The shader is based on real-world camera lens algorithms and will provide accurate depth of field simulations.

Features
Depth of Field will work on all objects in your scene including alpha-mapped geometry such as tree branches or window panes. All parameters are fully adjustable in real time, including:

Focal Distance - distance from camera at which objects are perfectly in focus (can change instantly, or smoothly over a given number of seconds)
Focal Length - distance from the center of the lens to the focal point of the lens.
Aperture - specifies the diameter of the opening of the lens through which light enters the camera. This in combination with focal length can control the length of your depth of field.
Our example code also demonstrates a "manual focus" and "auto focus" mode with smooth transitions while adjusting focus.

Possible Uses
Create cut scenes with a truly cinematic feel. Draw the player's eye toward important objects in the scene. For example, racking the focus back and forth between talking characters.

Create realistic scope and "iron sight" effects for your weapons and binoculars. Blur out the weapon, but leave the scene in focus. Or, automatically adjust the focus as the player aims between near objects and far objects.

Blur out the background to save time creating assets and get a boost in performance.

Download
Check out our product page for more details! We hope it will be able to enhance your games in whichever purpose you use it for.

Looks good!

How big is the the performance hit on lower end hardware, say Geforce 6600 GT or similar?

I was just about to hit the purchase button when I noticed in the minimum system requirements that TGEA 1.8 is needed. Is there a 1.7.1 version of this pack or do you have any plans to create one that is compatible with 1.7.1? It looks great!

I was thinking about that while watching the vid (before I saw it actually listed). You guys really have some awesome stuff coming out of your shop!

Yeah, TGEA 1.8 is useless to upgrade to for alot of people so I think a 1.7.1 version should be made. When I say useless, I am just referring to the fact that its too unstable.

Hmm, Yeah... Is there a 1.7.1 version for it ?

Looks great, can't wait to get my hands on this.

Yeah, I'm still using 1.7.1 also. I hope you have a version for 1.7.1 coming!

Confessions time. :) I'd also like to see a 1.7.1 version - we too decided to stick with that for our game before someone manages to get more fps out of 1.8.

I had my credit card out and was ready to buy it too until I read the requirement of TGEA 1.8.0.
My game project will be staying on 1.7.1 until it is published.
No real need to go to 1.8.0 anytime soon.

Hope you decide to make it work with 1.7.1, and I will definately buy it now.

Yeah, I'd have to throw a request in for a 1.7.1 version also, but that sure looks cool!

Also would like to request a 1.7.1 version

Don't need it right now, but will later. I like the idea of blurring the weapon as that would add more realism to shooting.

Thanks everyone!

We are currently busy with our next project, but given enough requests we would be able to justify the time to port the Depth of Field to 1.7.1. Please post in our forum under the Depth of Field 1.7.1 Support thread if you would be interested in purchasing a copy of the Depth of Field Shader Kit with 1.7.1 support. With enough requests we can make it happen! Thanks

We also are sticking with 1.7.1 for now. The performance hit was just too big on 1.8 for the PC version. We'll port things to 1.8 for the Mac version but for the PC version there wasn't much new in 1.8, just a big loss of frame rate.

Great work! I will buy this when I get to the stage of needing it.
