Where do I go from here

I have been playing with TGE for close to 2 years. I have tried to get on various projects in order to develop some working games. Most of these project have gone no where. I work with an older MAC and this has causes some problems, also. I am an old engineer/programmer that wanted to do game design and development. I have worked with computers for over 50 years; starting with the USAF in 1955. I have done alot of programming in my past history. I wanted to do game development inorder to implement some of our comic book characters in game format. I am not an artist and I found it is very hard to work with artist. I have had a problem with both paying and non-paying positiions. I tried to help my son in the development of comic books and now in game development based on my computer useage.

I am old and cannot find any work. I still use the computer everyday and have been trying to implement some games. My art work is lacking. I have implement many of the resources. I have serveral shoot-em up games and some adventures type games. I need better art work and some interface with real people. People that will not fade away as the project progresses.

I have out lived my money. So I can only offer my past work experiences. I use an older MAC computer. I have no money to upgrade. This forces me at the present time to use TGE. I need a computer upgrade in order to use TGEA. This limits the work I can do.

I am looking for someone to work with me or someone I can work with. I do think I have something to offer in game develoment. So far I have been a game hermit and I would like to change that.

Thank you.

I'm a bit of an artist - well I used to draw all the time, now I'm getting back into it to hone my skill. I am a solid programmer in TorqueScript, C++, C#, Python and Actionscript, and I can model and animate characters and model structures. I would be interested in helping you so that I can practice my art skill. I'm a parent and have many things on the go, so I couldn't promise you a solid amount of time (at least until you are ready to release - then I can spare some crunch time). I can spare some time however, over the year. Let's try it. Contact me with what you want.

Heya Mr. Kask... nice to hear from ya again.... it's good to see some seasoned veteran programmers hanging around.

Last time we heard from you I was working on Fractured Universe. We finished that and ended up getting first place in the contest.

I've since continued with the project by writing my own game engine and MMO framework to eliminate some of the challenges we encountered during the contest.

The result of this project has been IndieZen.org where we're nurturing a game development mentorship program and we're always interested in bumping elbows with seasoned veterans like you. I like to pretend I'm "seasoned" but I've only been programming since 1978.... I'm sure I could still learn a lot from you.... we all could.

Shoot me an e-mail (trichards [atsign] indiezen [dot] org) or visit our community forums. I look forward to hearing from you.

Hey Fred, great to see a long-time programmer interested in Torque, it is very inspirational!

Do you have any demos of you work you could show? Artists are visual types and probably would like to see something you have created - even if it has limited artwork - they should be able to get a feel of what the game could be if they replaced the artwork.

Good luck buddy.

Also, was going to say, I think all of us know what you mean by having difficulty finding artists and like-minded folk. This is indie-gaming, we all like to work for ourselves! Don't let that get you down, we all go through it and it can be frustrating at times.

I know there are a ton of sites and forums out there that offer ways for indies, hobbyists, and modders to get together, but I would love to see a site devoted specifically to this purpose. One that allows people to form profiles that specify their experience, availability, type of projects interested in, skills, looking for payed or non-payed work, etc. It could possibly recommend projects to individuals that they seem right for. Like LinkedIn, profiles could gain recommendations or suggested connections. Seems like the functionality behind social networking or dating sites would work great for aiming indies toward the projects that are right for them, instead of having to repeatedly dig through forums postings on dozens of different sites. I would create it myself if I was knowledgeable enough.
