Hi, just a quick update from Darkwind: War on Wheels in case you weren't aware of all the new features in the game.

Since our last newsletter about 6 months ago, we have added:

Pedestrians

Characters on foot. You can now exit and enter vehicles, which is useful when your car is badly damaged and you want to hijack someone else's or simply run away on foot. You can also turn over a vehicle that has rolled; however this takes some considerable time and may not be a wise thing to do under fire.

We have 25 different character models in-game

There are also so-called 'pedestrian arena combat' leagues running, including the deadly live-ammo variety and the not-so-deadly paintball variety. Pedestrians can use a variety of weaponry, from pistols and rifles to crossbow, SMGs and grenades.

Creatures

The poisoned wilderness of Evan has recently witnessed the return of wildlife.. however, these tend to be outsized mutated creatures who are quite willing to attack pedestrians attempting the long walk home after losing their cars to bandits.

Playback

We have very recently completed playbacks - so you can replay any event at your leisure, to enjoy particularly entertaining encounters again or to study other players' tactics. This feature has been requested since our very first beta testing in 2005 so it's great to see it finally implemented.

New town and maps

The addition of the southern town Sarsfield brings our total implemented towns to 6.

We are continually adding racetracks, combat arenas and wilderness maps, bringing the current total to:
22 racetracks and combat arenas
34 wilderness maps

New chassis types and weapons

These are also added from time to time; we now have 56 different chassis types and 52 weapon types (including handweapons).

Overhaul of in-game GUI

We have recently overhauled the in-game controls both in terms of visual style and usability - you can far more by simply pointing and clicking now.

Paintshops

Several enterprising players have set up paintshops, selling custom car-skins to other players for in-game cash.

As you can see, the Darkwind developers have been busy...

Hoping to see you in the desert over the holidays!

This is a great game. I really enjoy the persistent characters and stats mostly - oh and the car combat of course.
