The World (TGEA MMORPG)

Welcome everyone to my first ever GG Blog post! Well I guess the only reason I'm writing this is because Brett Seyler saw some of my videos on Vimeo and told me I should...so I am.
So I'll start off by showing off some of the work I've been doing so far.
The only thing I'll be showing in this post is Mac Anu. Mac Anu is Delta Server's Root Town. It is a large city with numerous canals running throughout, boats and gondolas allow access to all areas of the city. The two key landmarks in the city are the Chaos Gate which is located in a large plaza, and the city's clocktower, where event notices are often posted.
So once you first register and log into The World, this is where you will be.
I used constructor to create all the buildings, bridges, platforms, stairs, crates, etc. Everything seen in this mass of a town is on DIF. I'm not too sure how this is going to effect performance, but if it does in a bad way, it shouldn't be too hard to separate everything.
All of my testing and everything is being done in the FPS Environment Pack for TGEA, only because I don't own TGEA yet. But I probably should start saving up. I do have TGE, but it doesn't quite compare after playing with TGEA. So the upgrade cost shouldn't be much of a problem.
I haven't actually coded anything yet. I'm more of a conceptual/prototype thinker and artist. So what you see in the video may not be what is in the actual game if I ever finish it.
Right now I am working alone on this. I started it about...maybe like 3 weeks ago. And I've been working on and off with it because of school and work. So now that this semester is over I'll be dedicating a LOT more time to it.
I have some pretty high hopes with this game, if finished. I showed it to a few people and they seem to like it a lot so far, but there's still plenty of work to do.
If you want to check out the previous videos go to my Vimeo channel
I also have a page on the GreatGamesExperiment with more info and a couple early screenshots.
If you're interested in helping out or just giving me some ideas or suggestions, just leave a comment. I'd love to hear from you guys.

It looks really good, though I (think!) I can tell there is no normal or specular mapping (yet). Your own textures?

@Dan: Thanks for taking me up on that! I was serious by the way. This is some of the nicest looking stuff I'm seeing in TGEA. And yes, the music is great.

Very cool! It reminds me a lot of the central city hub area in the PS2 .hack//Sign game I played ages ago =)

Starting with the first questions,
@Andy Shatz: the music is from the .hack//Perfect Collection soundtrack from the first 4 .hack PS2 games; Infection, Mutation, Outbreak, and Quarantine.
@Steve YorkshireRifles Acaster: You are correct, I haven't yet added in normal or specular mapping yet, simply because I haven't learned it yet. Me and the one other guy helping me out with this plan on buying TGEA after Xmas once we get a bit of extra money. The textures unfortunately are not my own, but I do plan on reworking them from the originals to make them a bit higher res.
@Brian Wilson: Glad you're still keeping tabs on this project. I'll be taking your ideas into consideration very soon with a few concepts I'll be posting later on.
@Deborah Marshall: LAWL at Brett's picture and your tutorials on Vimeo are great. Keep posting em!
@Brett Seyler: "This is some of the nicest looking stuff I'm seeing in TGEA." Probably the best comment ever received. Thank you very much for pushing me to write a blog.
@Matt Fairfax + Edward: Indeed you are completely correct. A complete rework of the original The World from .hack. The first town being Mac Anu. I figured I start off with an almost exact copy just so I could get a feel for the map and where things are. From there I can add on different areas and improve the models and textures to really create a next gen feel to the old .hack we know and love.
Glad you guys are enjoying this. I'll be sure to post more videos and some other concepts on here and Vimeo. Thanks for the support!!! :) Take care everyone.

Today I was just playing around with Sony Vegas and created a replica of the default title screen for The World in the .hack games. I modified a few things because it's a mock screen for The World for iPhone/iPod Touch...yes I'll be releasing this game to the iPhone and iPod Touch. The $500 licensing fee is eh, but I think it'll be well worth it. Just waiting for iTGE!
Here are a few images of what I did and the video linked below them:

Hope you guys enjoy! I'll be posting again as soon as I finish up some other shtuff.
