The August GameTunnel roundup is out!!!

Two reviewers liked it (a lot!):

Pany: "Shelled is the best attempt at 3D Worms/Scorched Earth that I've seen yet. The interesting part real-time, part turn-based combat works really well, and helps make the game feel faster paced despite its tactical nature. The game is certainly one of the best of its kind and will entertain anyone who finds the core mechanics to be enjoyable. If you've been looking for a well executed 3D Worms/Scorched Earth, then Shelled! might be the answer for you."

Coby: "Far and away, I spent more time with Shelled Online than any other game this month. This is a game I'll be playing for a while."

Two reviewers didn't care for it:

Michael: "I think I like what Shelled OnLine is trying to be more than I actually like Shelled OnLine."

Russ: "Good, but not great."

Check out the full review as well as lots of other great indie games in the August roundup. And of course, download and try the game yourself at redthumbgames.com.

Russ should not be reviewing games any more. It is a huge conflict of interest being the marketing guy for Reflexive while trying to be an authoritative reviewer.

It is funny to note that Shelled 1 got 6.8 and Shelled 2 got 6.5 despite part 2 being an enhanced version part 1 in everything. Not exactly the most accurate rating system IMO. That made it .5 or less both times from getting a Bronze, their lowest monthly medal. Oh well! Also interesting to note that Shelled Online was turned down by Reflexive for not being casual enough (which it is not trying to be). That Russ didn't like the original made him naturally not like the updated enhanced version, so there was that bias as well. Still two reviewers obviously enjoyed it as did the "Out of Eight PC Game Reviews" reviewer, and any press is good press just for the exposure, so I'm always grateful.

Honestly, their reviews used to shower many indie games with praise just to try and build interest in them. I've noticed that it's not just your game which they were more critical of but many of the others as well. I suppose it's just the natural progression of things. I'd say a 6.5 now is a much better review than a 6.8 a few years back considering the more critical nature of the reviews.

Just strike back with Dragon Hatchery!

I'd take your 6.5 over my 4.3 any day. ;)
