Plan for Justin Mette

The first month of development on the Myrmidon project is already complete. Time is flying by! During this last week, we really focused on the company and the game design, above all else, in an attempt to get more organized and take the project "up a notch".

21-6 Server
The big news of the week is that the 21-6 Server is now up and running! The first half of the week was spent assembling, installing, and tuning the new machine. We are now running the 21-6 web site, message boards, online Myrmidon design document, project plan, and SourceSafe on this new server. We are also running the latest Myrmidon Server release, a Game Voice Server, and a few other fun things like a NASCAR 4 dedicated server. We are just waiting for the 21-6.com domain to be transferred to the new machine for this task to be complete.

Artist
Our largest concern at this time is that of artwork for the game. We are in need of another artist to join Derek in creating the visual aspects of Myrmidon. This is a great project with a dedicated team. If you have artistic talents and can devote time to this project, please reply to our Help Wanted Ad.

Design
We are only four weeks away from the next Phase and therefore we need to have the vision established for things like Character classes, skills, and attributes. A great deal of forum discussion and progress was made this last week on these topics. The latest ideas for a skill system in Myrmidon will provide the gamer with the ultimate in flexibility when exploring the different skill sets in the game. We are trying to walk the line between a fast paced action game like Tribes 2 and an RPG adventure game like Asheron's Call. Therefore, the skill system has to be easily accessible to all players at any time but also incorporate game balance. More work needs to be done on the design of the skill system, however a basic vision has been identified.

Development Environment
SourceSafe has been moved to the new server. By using a VPN connection and a Terminal Server client, we finally have a tolerable solution for source control. We are still exploring integration of Visual Studio and SourceSafe across the VPN connection as an optimization to the process.

Mission: Research Station
Derek started modeling concepts for the actual research station in this mission. The storyline for the mission has the research station losing orbit and crashing into the planet surface. Therefore, we decided to design the complete model first and then figure out how to break it up into pieces for the mission itself.

Player Model
Derek has also provided some more concept art for a full-body Myrmidon. The artwork, as well as the return of Mark to the design forums, has raised the question of what a Myrmidon really is supposed to look like. We expect to have a better definition by the end of this next week.

Player Selection
Dave was the only person that actually got some programming done this last week with Justin and Ryan focusing on setting up the new server. He has checked in the latest changes to the new SourceSafe system which provided player selection via the mouse. He is now adding code to use the keyboard for selection of the next, previous, and closest player.

This game sounds like it's going to be a big one. Just remember that I said that when things start to get rough (which they most likely will.) Looking good!

This game sounds like it should be pretty good, especially if it uses the torque engine. I'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out. Keep going for it and don't give up!

Ian, we are also getting excited to play the game ourselves. Thanks for the support, we will try to keep everyone informed of our progress.

FYI - we are using the TGE.
