Very Slow Progress on Baseball game

by Colin Aitken · 06/14/2008 (2:24 am) · 8 comments

I have spent most of my computer time (one hour a day) editing the source code. This goes very slowly.
I am too young for this!!!! (literally, i'm only 13)
Oh well, hopefully it will work.

On a brighter note, i have finally made a couple changes that i've wanted to do for a long time, including more free gravity, curving projectiles, and a direction variable.
Hopefully i will be done soon with this

Sorry about the first part, I was in a bit of a stressed mood. It's not actually as bad as I made it sound and it is very rewarding

If you are navigating the source code, you aren't too young.
Don't get discouraged. Think of what you are doing as a learning experience for adulthood. It may take a couple of years to get your game done, but that's ok. You have lots of time. Just relax and have fun with it. Post some screenshots next time if you can. :)

Seems like you need to negotiate a little more computer time. ;)

Colin, you sound quite bright to me, so I have no doubt you have the mindset and capability to make it happen. Just understand that game dev is all about tackling one challenge at a time. So in turn, it requires a LOT of patience. Hang in there, and don't forget to look back on what you've accomplished from time to time.

Good luck with the project.

As the others said. Also, remember you can't know everything at once. As Brian said, look back at how much more you know a week, month, year ago from time to time and you will be surprised. As yourself, could I have coded this a year ago, the answer is usually a big NO.

Meh, your not to young, I started making games a year ago, and I'm only 14 now. One thing though: make sure you use source control, especially if you have siblings who use the same computer. It really sucks when one of them deletes your game. =P

I wish I could've started when I was 13... Just a tip - Keep it simple!

Thank you for all the encouragement! After reading these replies, I tackled the problem again and made a couple important steps!
