GarageGames - Great Plains Style

As Josh posted, we've been hired on at GarageGames.

Here's a bit about myself. I co-founded Prairie Games, Inc in 2004 and shipped my first game, Minions of Mirth, the following year. At Prairie Games, I designed, produced, handled PR/Marketing, ran the office and did whatever else needed doing :) It was an incredible experience and I'm excited to apply these skills to my new career at GarageGames.

Josh and I took Jeff Tunnell's message on 'right sizing your life' to heart. We moved to a small town in North Dakota and scaled our life down accordingly. We really enjoy living in a small town and having our office space just 2 blocks away! We'll be working remotely on some exciting new projects!

So...what you're telling me is that what you pay for BOTH your office and your house combined is less than my townhouse apartment rent.

Maybe I need to move over to the Awesome Division with you guys, Lara!

The best part of working in the middle of nowhere North Dakota is being able to concentrate. Life is so less distracting and streamlined... there are no lines, no traffic (we don't even have any stoplights in town), no noise, ridiculously low crime, etc.

We wallk to work... and I can go weeks without ever climbing into our car. The people are amazingly friendly and it is a major social blunder not to wave, smile, and say hello. Prairie Games was front page news in the local paper here.. which was awesome (and so very funny).

We worked out of the house for the first 3 years... finally getting some separation between home/work via having an office has helped a lot. The internet was upgraded here a few months ago and its now 12mbps, which is pretty damned good and has zero congestion.

All that said, I absolutely love Oregon :)

Congrats Josh and Lara. It is nice to hear that things are going so well for you.

I was stuck at dial-up here at my Sierra mountain location up until a couple of years ago. Finally have DSL, but your connection is an order of magnitude faster than mine.

Awesome to see what you guys have accomplished. I'll be heading out to our family ranch up near Watford City this summer. (Gotta get some riding and hunting in) I might just stop by and see how GG:North Dakota is pumping along.

--Eastman - Yes the housing prices sound great, but remember that your house will be frozen for 8 months out of the year. And your only neighbors will be cattle. :)

I love the New Hampshire winters...and all I need is my computer ;)

Yeah, I suppose North Dakota isn't the place to head after college...
