Well, I'm about to set off on adventure or sorts. I took the plunge and bought Torque. I figured it was time to stop all the, "One day I'm going to take Kung Fu classes, one day I'm going to build that giant fish aquarium, one day I'm gonna blah blah", and actually DO one of the things I kept talking about.
I have absolutely no C++ or scripting experience, limited modeling experience (very limited), decent level design experience for Quake 3, Tribes 1and 2, and no friends to rely on for advice. I have what I think is a great idea for a game, as far as I know there's never been anything like it.
The tools I have at my disposal are Quark, 3ds Max 6, all the things that come on the 3-D Programming-All-in-One, the internet, and an intense discontentment with never having done anything that amounted to ...well anything.
It looks like I've got my work cut out for me.

Keep an eye on the forums, and dont be affraid to ask basic questions. I've only been here a couple of weeks and its one of the best communities that I've had the pleasure of dealing with.
Look forward to seeing more blogs and some progress :)

Yep, good luck Charlie, and I understand where your coming from because I've been doing the same thing myself. I've been sitting on Poser, Maya, and a host of other goodies for 6 years saying to myself one day I will make something with this!Keep an eye on the forums, and dont be affraid to ask basic questions. Good luck man. I just took the plunge also. It's rough, real rough getting started. I bought the same book also, along with torque for teens (even though i'm an old ****). Luckly they just released a new version of TGEA and comes with some pretty good docs.

I'd like to see that giant fish aquarium someday too if you get around to that. ^_^
