Combat Starter Kit Update

The Combat Starter Kit Update

The combat Starter Kit was just released but already our team at Dream Games Inc have made a few updates. While the tank which came with the initial release was functional it was not the quality of art that we are happy to publish. We have developed a new M1A1 based on realistic dimensions. Also we have added a muzzle flash to the main turret gun.

If you are already an owner of the Combat Starter Kit these updates will be available shortly as CSK v.1.01 .

If you have not yet purchased the Combat Starter Kit you might want to compare the features we offer with any other content or starter kit package. Combat Starter Kit is a fully functional and well tested add-on for the Torque Game Engine. It was produced and sold under contract with GarageGames.

Our ongoing product upgrade and support is evident in the many functions that we plan to release in the near future. Among those items are additional vehicle and player model upgrades. Anti-personnel mines (Claymore Type) are being tested now.

I've been meaning to ask if this kit has or will have a vehicle similiar to the Stryker IAV kit. In particular I'm interested in the multiple wheel platform (more than four wheels). I know the tank and other vehicles will have the same functionality, i.e., turret firing, working brake lights but I'd like to know if you have a vehicle that uses more than four wheels.

I've been thinking about purchasing the Stryker kit but I'd rather not if your kit has this or is planning a similiar vehicle.

Thanks.

We do not currently have any plans to put a Stryker in the kit.

Bought the kit, it's awesome, one of the most fully featured kits available, thanks guys. Good to hear you're already working on more features. :)

I freakin love you guys. Great to see you are still working on the kit. Keep the updates coming. The support for this pack has been superb since release, I hope you guys can keep it up. Do you plan on releasing the source art for the character models?

For that first photo, is that the muzzle effect coming off of the cannon? Seems a bit too much, but then again I've never seen a tank fire in real life.

Also, a flash effect for the chaingun would be welcomed. Lastly, bring on the claymores!

Yea thats the muzzle flash. I looked at a chinese Type 96 tank firing in a photograph and realized the flash was huge. All source art will be release very soon. As soon as its organized it will be added to the download in its own file. We will get some muzzle flames on the gatlin guns. Thanks for pointing it out.

Very Cool. The new tank is an improvement over the old one for sure. I've been on the fence about picking this pack up. If it came with vehicles that had art the quality of the Stryker Pack I would pick this up for sure.

As an artist I have to agree with Jehsup about the art not being as good as the pack

I have my doubts that anyone buying the Combat Starter Kit would actually use the kits content to create a new game. We are upgrading our art as we go but the idea here is to provide a solid game core. The art assets would actually make the game different from the kit. I would hope that we don't see a hundred new combat type games out there with the same models. While you are free to use or adapt any models in the Combat Starter Kit I hope game developers will look into additional art content packs. The specs for adapting models to work in CSK are included.

Great to hear it!
I think the art is pretty adequate as placeholder.

What I'd like to see eventually is a complete AI implementation for the game type :-)

Hello,

I was wondering if the kit had a character selection screen (using guiObjectView) or something similar where your character is displayed in 3d before starting the game? If not, is this planned for a future update. I was checking out your 'Character Selection Course' and was hoping for something like that (but not as complex) being incorporated into the Combat Kit.

Thanks.

We do not currently have any plans to include AI in the Combat Starter Kit. We do not have a character creation like you mentioned available in the kit. The creation screen is currently a 2d specialty selection screen combined with simple inventory. The kit is a functional multiplayer battlefield type game core but it is also very generic which we designed it to be. Developers can easily use it as a base to build upon.

Has the update been released yet? When I go to my downloads it still shows v1.0.
