Hello World! (Man I love those programs haha.)

Well I've been a member of this site since February 4, 2008 and I thought I'd give a little intro blog about me and my goals, etc., etc.

Like my profile states, I'm a Computer Science student at Southern Nazarene University in Oklahoma City. I was originally planning on attending the University of Advancing Technology as a Game Programming major, but due to uncontrollable forces (i.e. money) I was unable to attend. However, I don't regret that. I like where I am and am kind of glad that I will have a more general Computer Science degree rather than a degree that is focused solely on games. And who knows...maybe I'll be able to get a master's from UAT, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. Anyway, even though I'm not focused on game programming for my major, I do work on game programming in my own time to create a portfolio for when I graduate. I like to take what I learn in a general sense and apply it to the wonderful realm of games.

I've always had a passion for games, but I never thought about making them until I read a magazine article about it in high school. Up until then I wanted to be either an engineer or an architect. I really am glad I read that article. That is when I decided that I wanted to become a game programmer, and I haven't looked back since. People think I'm weird but I love programming. My friends in my classes that are network engineering majors don't know why I like it, but I do. To me there is (almost) nothing more satisfying than spending hours working on a problem and writing code and going through several different solutions until you get something that actually works the way you want it to. I absolutely love it.

I heard about Torque and GarageGames for the first time in that magazine article I read in high school, but didn't really look into them much. I then heard of them again while watching a video from UAT about starting an independent game company in 2006 (my high school graduation year for those of you that are interested in knowing random facts about me). The presentation was given by a representative of Torque...a Davey Jackson I believe it was. Unfortunately I still didn't look into Torque much but it did inspire me in the realm of an independent game company, which is what my dream is today (So thanks Mr. Jackson for at least starting to get me going in the right direction). It really wasn't until recently that Torque and GarageGames really got my attention. I decided to try out TGB and TGE and so far I'm impressed and am getting ready to take the plunge and purchase an indie license for TGE. I'm really excited to see what I can do and for what the future has in store for me.

I'll try and keep a regular post of my dealings with TGE and projects that I'm working on once I've purchased TGE. But until then, goodnight and good luck.

Jack Kinsey

By the way - if any of you people out there are WoW freaks like me (it's my get away from reality here at SNU) I'm on Bladefist under the name of Jakks. Look me up!
