That's right, just one week left in the InstantAction Game Developer Contest. Put the finishing touches on those submissions and get them to gamedevcontest08@garagegames.com before I get into work on Monday, February 10th.
As one final incentive for those waffling on whether or not they're ready to submit there game to the contest, I give you:
the InstantAction Cup-O-Noodle t-shirt!

As modeled by the lovely Derek Bronson:

First introduced at IGC 2007, these 100% cotton tees are the last word in game developer style, providing the comfort and durability to withstand 16 hour programming sessions. Coming in a stylish tree bark brown... Ok, enough of that.
Each finalist announced at GDC this year will receive an InstantAction t-shirt. Soon after GDC we'll announce the 2 runner-ups and the Grand Prize winner.
For all the contest updates, including the full prize list, head over to the InstantAction Blog.

I've gotten lots of compliments on my IA t-shirt. And lots of questions, too. Good way to spread the word.

What?!?! That's bad. First they website was very "unfunctional" when I tried to sign up and then this "only USA residents" things. Good bye IA. I won't consider you in the future, for whatever service you bring to the masses.

You can thank international gambling laws for that, by the way. Most countries deem contests as "gambling", and they are illegal, so it is standard in the game industry to only allow contests that have a prize worth a particular cash value to be available to residents of the US.

What a very general and daft law anyhow, how is gambling the same as a contest that is a showcase of an individual or teams skill? Are you guys sure your contest comes under the same law? Is this confirmed by your legal team so to speak?

Surely the publishing contract grand prize isn't a cash prize (since you can't buy it right?) So I am I right in thinking if you enter as a non us citizen, you could still legally win the first prize, just not the other prizes, which are purchasable and therefore cash prizes? Or is that just wishful thinking on my part? What a very general and daft law anyhow, how is gambling the same as a contest that is a showcase of an individual or teams skill? I know it totally sucks, especially since so much of the community is based internationally, but as I've said before, that doesn't prevent anyone from sending in their game for publishing consideration outside of the contest. We're always looking for great games to add to the InstantAction library.

We tried our best to clear international participation through legal, but each additional country we add requires a new set of compliance rules, including payments for foreign clearance and the gambling laws Stephen mentioned.I know it totally sucks, especially since so much of the community is based internationally, but as I've said before, that doesn't prevent anyone from sending in their game for publishing consideration outside of the contest. Oh well, thanks for trying, I guess we'll have to take advantage of that option (if possible) before they create some other sparse law(s) ;)

Monday, Feb 10th? So are submissions due on Sunday the 10th or Monday the 11th?

We just pushed the deadline back to the 18th to give people more time to work on their submissions, so neither. ;)
Previously I said the 11th because I wasn't going to penalize people for sending something in before I got to work on Monday, but after the literal deadline.
