persistance is rewarding

No I didn't finally manage to make something with TGE. But in my mind I have something much better. I got a job with a major game maker!

After I got out of the Navy I started applying to Turbine, makers of LotR online, D&D online and Asheron's call. That was over a year and a half ago. I have only started on my computer programming degree a few months ago so I didn't apply to any programming spots. But besides that I applied for almost every single job that became available. And time after time I got the response back the position has been filled.

Well I never stopped I kept trying even when I had lost hope of ever getting a job there because I wanted to be in the game industry more than any other profession out there. And finally one day I opened my e-mail and there was one titled "Interview with Turbine!". I couldn't believe it, I went in for the interview not knowing at all how to prepare for this type. I've played all their games, I've played thousands of games. So I just went for it the best I could. A couple days later I had an offer. I still can't believe I made it.

So to end this little story I start on the 4th as a QA guy at a company I hugely respect in a field I'm dying to be in. Finally life is good.

Rock on with your bad self. Get in there and kick some butt! If you want email me I have some old test plan templates that I made up and they were very succesful. I am doing the same thing now. Keep sending in resumes and keep knocking on doors... hopefully someday I will back in as well

... the gaming industry... it's kind of like a drug. :)

Anyways congrats!

Another one swallowed up by a soul-sucking mainstream game company...

thank you! I couldn't get to the community pages for the last couple days for some reason.

Jay, I can understand that thought process, especially on an indie group page, but how many people using these programs are actually making any profits at all let alone enough to survive on. And at least with going mainstream I picked a company who's games I really like, as opposed to someone like EA who's games are pathetic.

I hope to post again once I've been at the job a little bit to give my thoughts on that kind of work, thanks again all

Good luck my friend.. perhaps you can convince them to abandon AC and put whatever efforts they have in that product into making a decent upgrade... I hope LOTR continues to hold on.. because with AC on life support and DDO kinda a flop.. they are on thin water..

Grats, now the work can begin ;p Hard work begets hard work, unfortunately for lazy people like me, lol. Big congrats on achieving your goal!

Pesto AC is still very profitable, and it's been out since 99, so ya it's doing ok
