Hi,
The next version of Wheels is released. I fixed a few bugs and the game should now run faster.
Changes:
Damagesystem removed(see why for more information)
door problems fixed
missions
GUI rewritten
help added
CD PLayer added
Added more cars
Added mission infos
fixed score counter problems
taillight problem fixed
added more score boxes, which make it easier to reset the car
Why is there no damage system in this release?
I thought a lot about this, too. I saw a video of Burnout Paradise last night and thought: "You're not developing Burnout!". As Wheels started I had the goal to make big crashes and deformable objects, but when I started development I found out that it's not that easy to do deformable objects in Torque. I removed the deformable objects feature from my list and went on. I decided to do the crashes with particles, but it's very hard to get an awesome look like in other games. When I started to rewrite the game, I thought again about the damage system. I thought about the exploding barrels, which you saw in the last release. I thought it would be great if the player has to fight against the track, the time and his health. But when I released the last release I thought time, health and mission, that would be too hard. The barrels are still there and they still explode, but you know never get damaged.
Why are there only a few missions?
I thought a lot about that, but at the end it became clear that I need to sell the game. I really would like to make the game avaiable for free, but development costs a lot of money. I don't need to live from this money, but I spend a lot of money that I would like to get back. This is just money that is needed to keep the project alive. During the last years I spend over 700 dollars on my projects. I want to spend the money that I get back into my projects as well. For example at the moment I've got no money for a server and I cannot make a mmorpg. Again, sorry, but I need to keep most of the tracks to be able to sell the game.
This is getting really long now... As always please tell me what you think.
