Torque Titans 2008: First Look

Hey all - Happy New Year 2008:

I'm working on a new idea called Torque Titans which should be out by Xmas 2009 or 10
depending when it gets done. I'm planning a yearly release as of the first and hoping to
make it unique to the now out Quake Wars or Q3A. Not trying to copy anyone in this project,
but it will be a cross between fantasy and real life units, tanks, and weapons. The game
uses the TGE 1.5.2 and several content packs to help speed things up for the first release
of the project. There is just me on the project at the moment doing all the work but I'm
planning on hiring a part time coder and scripting guy, one modeler and a level artist to
help cut down on some work on my end later this month. If you want to contract a job and
might have something to offer this project please let me know cause as I posted
http://www.garagegames.com/blogs/5588/14124 I do state I'm not a coder nor a strong modeler
but have been hit with some emails asking for more info about the game since the leak there
of this new project.

I've been working on this idea for several months now but have no strong screens to show
at this time. When I have a decent work along, I'll post it here for sure... I'm also
planning on releasing the scripts and the code mods to the engine that I use in this game
for those here to learn from and build off of. I figure if you guys help me with all your
great resources, the least I can do is return the favor. I also use many code snips from
other resources here on the site that I'm learning from as I pull this project into an Alpha
setup for late Jan 2008.

What is it?

I wanted it to be a new style of a Q3A like game but then as the idea changed, so did the
idea of what my vision was for the project overall... Now I'm looking at something of a
Quake Wars meets War in real life. You have your group, red, blue, whatever color and you
need to get into the teams base and lock it down... kinda a CTF thing but more of a king of
the hill setting going on here. You use tanks, h3s and Choppers to make your team win here
plus those on foot get to ride in tanks, and other toys to roam the world with. I'm not sure
on an exact story but I'm leaning towards a WW4 called a Mega War to hopefully end all wars.

The Story as I said isn't really polished but I'm leaning towards a Mega War with Russia.
The slight back-story will be that Russia and Germany battled, Germany was nuked off the
planet by them and now they are after the USA. So we end up coming into battle, something
like a 911, after they hit us with a "get us noticed" shot that completely levels Washington
DC. Now, the USA is on it's own to defend itself against this threat. Area 51 goes into
action allowing all sorts of new Technoigys to be used in the game as the game progresses
onward, so really you never know what your going to get from area to area. Oh and BTW you
enlist in the Army to help the nation defend against this threat and A51 becomes your base
of calling to help defend you as a safe haven... like I said I still have some kinks to work
out on all this adding up to make since...

What engine will it use ??

Well since I'm not a programmer, and still learning TS, it has to be TGE 1.5.2. I honestly
wanted it in the TGEA but I can't afford to spend a lifetime learning it. I know bits and
fragments of how it works but not enough to make it useful in this venture. Down the road, I
will use it but right now TGE is my only hope for this game. Still, it should come out
shining cause I have seen some really cool games using just TGE, so it goes to show you
don't need the cutting edge to make a good game.

Music:

I custom build the entire score to the game through Reason 4.01 and using Live 7 with VST
plug-ins to make the complete game sounds and Ambient stuff you will hear in the game. I've
always been into the music side of things, since I released my first Ambient Sounds pack two
years ago here at GG ( http://www.garagegames.com/products/89/ ) I have made a total of 6
other packs since that release but mainly tried to keep them private over that time for my
other game projects but will soon be marketing them to the public as well. If any one is
interested in my other packs or could help market them for me please let me know at
dlstorminc@yahoo.com as I could use all the help I can get to market this pack series.

I'm already in the works of my Ambient Space pack series which should run for another 6 or 7
strong packs link my Ambient Sounds packs did but have a more spacey feel to them. I'm
planning on using the one here at GG for some of the levels in my own project which should
be cool as I've always been so proud of that first pack... I figure I should be since its up
here on a site like GG...

Art and Textures:

Doing most of my own Texture making for the game, but will be buying up a few packs here and
there to help me save some time on the project so I can get a more better grip on the
overall package process so I can move forward faster then if I just did everything on my
own, piece by painful piece. The one thing I learned early on in game making is that there
are a lot of puzzle pieces to a game, from textures to models to sounds... you have to piece
everything together and you may have a game if you do it right, if not, you have a bad game
that makes you look bad as a designer. That is why I'm trying to take my time and get this
together to a point that is easy for me to get at my assets when I need them without hunting
all over 3 hard drives to find what I need. Hell, I've dedicated a 160 gig external to just
this project alone, just hope it don't go out like the Doom 3 teams two Terra's did on the
project.... can we say backup? :-P

Next blog I promise to have a few good screens and maybe, MAYBE a vid of it if I can get one together that is worth showing the project off. If you would like to help in some way on this project, please drop me a line. My main goal isn't do become rich off this game, I want to do it to recoup my investment and show the world a cool game and have fun in a project and form a strong team bond with a few good people who have the same vision as I do. Sure the money is what makes life better but too, getting a product out that people enjoy... to me that means more then the money. I figure do it for loving of doing it and the money will follow... I should know I drive a big truck for a living day in and out and do game making on the side. I love my job driving but I love game and Audio production too...

If you know of anyone that could help I will find a way to pay for the services or you can donate or trade services for any time worked on this project. If you know someone please let me know... Thanks and see you soon...
