Much of the news regarding InstantAction has been focused on gamers, but that doesn't mean we don't want to get developers in on the action.

With that in mind, we bring you the 2008 InstantAction Game Developer Contest. This is a great opportunity to win publishing contract from GarageGames and be among the first to get your game on a next generation online platform. Read on for all the juicy details.
Independent game developers, this is your chance to turn your dream game into reality by winning a publishing contract for the InstantAction.com game platform. The winning entry will join games made by other well-known industry heavyweights. Finalists will be announced at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, with the winner being announced shortly thereafter.
InstantAction is all about bringing fun, top-tier games to the already large and growing audience of online gamers. We're looking for submissions that are innovative and eye-catching, but more importantly, easy to pick up and enjoy immediately. Another main focus of InstantAction is community. As such, all submissions are required to be multiplayer games or include an extensive multiplayer component.
More details and prize categories will be announced soon. Questions? Respond in the comments sections and we'll answer as soon as we can, or send questions to ContestQuestions@garagegames.com.

It can be built with any engine, or just a GG engine?

Says any technology and no purchase necessary :)

Does IA have a multiplayer server and lobby infrastructure, or do we need to create these on a per-game basis?
If yes, I assume we'll be hearing more about that API?

Any engine and tech can be used. There won't be a bias towards Torque.

@Clint: Much of the server and lobby functionality is undetermined, but if the demo has some sort of multiplayer functionality, even if it's against AI opponents, it shouldn't hurt your chances of winning (as long as we can clearly see the concept).

Quote:3) All entries must be multiplayer, or include an extensive multiplayer component.Multiplayer these days often means some kind of networking is involved. What if I simply have a co-op multiplayer game, as in a person right next to me with a controller in their hands playing with me?

Very cool. Definitely going to submit the game we are working on. Fredrik S

@Ajari: Co-op multiplayer would definitely be enough to submit the game, but if your game won the contest, we'd have to work with you to incorporate network multiplayer. InstantAction is all about playing against others in a browser, so it's essential to have the ability to play some kind of multiplayer online.

Too bad for Europeans etc. We would have had good entry for the contest...

This contest doesn't prevent anyone to send normal submission for publishing, so we can still win the "first price" by ourselves ;)

That's exactly right, if you have an awesome game in the works, send it our way even if it's not part of the contest. We want to populate InstantAction with as many great games as possible.

I have a question; is an InstantAction for Mac going to come out?
#16
We're working on it, but don't have it currently running on Macs. We see Mac as an extremely important platform for InstantAction, and hope to get it up and running as soon as possible.
