Xeno Versus Beta: Now Available to All :)

Howdy folks. I think this is the first time that I've blogged twice in a month.* But these are important times! I'm just at that point where I need feedback, dang it. I'm calling the Yahoo group idea a flop. People seem to be weary of joining it. I personally like the service, but the reservations on the general Internet users' part is understandable.
With that said, I'm just going to post the link here. If you could post feedback in my TGB forum thread, or here in the comments, that would be super awesome.
ZIP file (Win XP): www.xenoclone.com/downloads/XenoVersusBeta.zip
Short Guide: www.xenoclone.com/downloads/xvsbeta_guide.pdf
Hidden key maps: www.xenoclone.com/downloads/xvs_keys.txt
I need comments and ideas on how to improve the camera. That's the single biggest issue by far. But comments on any bugs or anything else are also desired. My goal is to get the beta in a solid enough state to submit to IGF... but without that camera perfect, I'm not sure it will be ready. Given that submissions are due by October 1st, you can imagine that I need input fast!
As a reminder, the beta expires on October 7th. Thanks. I hope to see some feedback soon!
*In fact, I might be blogging three times as I have a second project also nearing beta.

as mentioned, not being able to use the mouse for all menus is confising, i am clicking and nothings happening. if you let the user use the mouse on the main menu, it should follow through.
also, i am gessing what i have to do on the ship select menu by clicking things/ pressing buttons and seeing what happens as there is no clear steps or in screen instructions to guide the user through.
the game is good, but the camera stops it being fun. main camera problem is it cuts to different positions and zoom levels and its like ' hey where my ship go!' (when the game started my ship was not even on the screen), leaving you to hunt the screen for your little ship (i kept forgetting which ship was mine untill it moved in the diection i was pressing), trying to see where you are is not fun.
if the camera kept the player on the screen and zoomed smoothly it would be alot better.
when i died the game just carried on, and i didnt know what i was suposed to do so i exited out.
i hope that helps

I do have a camera tweak that I'm working on. Not part of the official beta, but if you're interested:
www.xenoclone.com/downloads/xvs_camerapatch.zip
Unzip into your XenoVersusBeta/SpaceMelee/gameScripts directory. :)

I did unzip that and tell it to everwrite any files. The game drops out after the first screen with the beta information. Just plops back to desktop.

First impression is pretty neat game. Some suick feedback then:
- In the game options they feel inverted. When it says fullscreen "on" it is actually off and you can turn it on by clicking. It should reflect the current settings, not the settings that happen when you click.
-The Fleet selection screen is controlled by keyboard but before I was able to use the mouse. I can also use the mouse to turn the AI on or change the player in that screen, however in order to do ship selection I have to use the keyboard. So for the PC version everything in the menues should be mouse controlled. (keyboard optional of course)
Apart from these things which dint feel intuitive the menus and things are cool, art and sound.
Ingame controls are responsive and fun to play until:
Yes, the camera starts acting up... :D - It jumps sometimes uncontrollably (when I seem to reach an edge, which I cant tell when that is) and puts me off somewhere else and its hard to find the ship before I get blasted to bits.
I need to play it some more to get an Idea how to change the camera. However the feeling is that the camera should always have the player at the center and revolve the rest around it.
At the moment its like the camera is granting the enemies more attention than the player, when adjusting itself.
Apart from that it was fun to play first go, Ill try again tomorrow :) Keep it up Chris
