Thats something id like to touch on. In each of these groups of people there is something i have learned about most of use around Garage Games, DreamGames are divided into 3 fields of Folks. There is the game in a day type, they expect games to be popped out in a day. id say half of those folks in this catagory succeed its a small manageable task. The second group is the folks that understand that games time time, these are people that have done their homework, are usually avid gamers. They know that a game can take 6months a year , even 5 years to make. These are the folks at GG that you see getting published. Then there is the last group and sadly its a majority. Folks that come into the community either expecting the material to be hand fed to them (this is not withstanding the lack of complete documention; which is coming???) but rather dont even bother to learn the material. Then get mad and bewildered that were being mean and uncaring. These kind of folks typically are part of the shooter generation12-18 range, and seem to have forgotten this is a indie community. Most of us have beenin the same spot they were at one point. I know i was, i havehad my liscence for TGE for just over 1 year. Thats right and im still learning. For those in the later group, heres my advice. If your serious about making a game, start small. Pick up some material to read. I dont care how you get it, im not condoning piracy, but read the books there are several printed that offer a very wide variety of informative stuff on how Torque and games work. I read at least a hour a day on the forums sometimes more. So Guys bottom line of this paragraph. Learn the material!! Dont Expect your first game to be Halo3 or Gears of War. Expect it to be a POS, but learn from each version, if you do your homework the first verstion of most games is a ugly mass of blocky characters and stand in items. Yes even today, this is what they do. Anyway On with the show.
As this second quarter comes upon us we note that we have lost a few folks. Either via them no longer showing up since the first tally, or the few that have actively announced their exit from the contest. We are hopefully they have had fun, and wish them the best of luck in their endeavors, but we are moving on. 6 more months to go.
The last tally 3 months ago, we were asked what we thought was our top 5 picks for the finalists. We be announcing the point tallys when we get them as always. What we will do is post the last tallies and their point value. We wil highlight the top 5-6 with addies and commentary.
