I had an interesting idea last night...

...and I jumped right on it.
I just created a website called WikiWorlds - wikiworlds.net/WIKIWORLDS/
On this website people can build and create their very own universe. They create galaxies, star systems, planets, species, characters, technology - even the history and events of all these things. Users can add to the creations of others, until it becomes a whole new universe on a webpage.
It's like creating your very own Star Wars universe - but with ENDLESS possibilities.
Right now I'm establishing the guidelines to get people started easily. I think it could turn into something really cool. I'm hoping artists will fall in love with the website, design their own species and add them onto the website.
It would also be awsome if novelists or even film studios pick up on the website. I see a lot of potential for this.
There could be different universes depending on what people want to see.
Something like a serious universe that stays in a certain boundary of starships and planets.
Then there could be this totally wacky universe that just makes no sense at all - a planet filled with armies of living baby diapers. I imagine some people can come up with some hilarious historical stories to tell.

Interesting idea. I tried something similar on www.nebulagame.com a year or so ago, but I needed functionality the standard Wiki wasn't providing. I wanted to structure the universe (when talking about planets, I wanted a template that gave to which political party the planet belonged, but didn't find a way to do it). Do you have any specific adaptations you did to the vanilla mediawiki to make it more to your liking?
