Warehouse/Downtown Content Packs WIP

by Alan James · 07/15/2007 (10:46 pm) · 41 comments

Hi Everyone!

Seems like content is the name of the game at the moment.

And well, not being one to avoid jumping on the bandwagon...below are some WIP shots of Really Really Good Things Studios two current content pack projects Monster Pack #1: Warehouse District and Monster Pack #2: Downtown District.

Work does continue on all of our other projects, but things get shifted around a lot in regard to priority. These content packs have moved to the front burner mainly because of a commitment of their promised donation to a homelessness awareness project streetsmartdetroit.com. Check them out, like I've noted before, it seems like a worthwhile project.

And again, sorry to be so image heavy, but it was hard for me to decide which models to show off. This represents only a portion of each pack. These are primarily .difs, but the final pack/s contents will also include smaller items (dumpsters, trash cans, etc.) that will be .dts objects. Regarding price...haven't really nailed anything down, but have been kicking around the $19.95 to $24.95 range. Who knows? Have to see what kind of response we get.

*UPDATE*

Here are a couple samples. Try them out, use them in game, whatever. EULA is included. Feeback is appreciated.

Excellent work, would happily buy these. Any chance of streets that'll work in 1.5?

Gorgeus, the best buildings for TGE I have seen so far. My sincere congratulations.

@Glen C,
Just shot some digital pictures today with my new Kodak 12mp z1275 (that also shoots 720i video, it's kinda cool), and I got some that I think I'll be able to use for decent street base textures. If they work out I'll be making the difs modular so you can snap them together to create most any street layout you'd like.

Should work fine in 1.5, but I have builds of Torque from 1.3 to 1.5.2 all up and running so it wouldn't be any trouble to confirm that.

@Everyone,
If you're curious, the bulk of the base textures I start with are either from TextureMonk.com, CGTextures.com or original work. Leon at TextureMonk has graciously granted me permission to distribute their textures with my models as long as they are not used apart from the models, and CGtextures licensing grants commercial use in model work, again if the textures themselves are not the product. My original textures (primarily the crate objects, and the smaller objects that will be included) will be licensed for most use with the exception of repackage in any other texture pack.

Awesome. Can you make more of this please? Maybe also a complete harbour scenery?

OMFG!!! Fan-fracking-tastic! Those buildings are by far the best I have seen to date. Not really surprising though considering the quality of your other work.

Regarding your price point, I think you should go for the higher end of the price spectrum. Sure; I may piss some people off for saying that, but I am a firm believer that you get what you pay for, and your stuff looks like some serious top shelf gear. I would be happy to pay at least US$24.95 per pack, and at that price they would be a steal. As much as I like a bargain, I would rather pay top dollar for your packs knowing that there will be more to come, than less if it means that you will lose interest due to it not really being worth your while.

nice work
have a question tough, i asume that most of your textures are photo textures
are those all self made photographs?

I'm not suprised at all that this pack has turned out the way it has. Alan's screen shots and demos have always been some of the most impressive I've ever seen on GG.

Awesome texture work Alan. Some of those objects, like the truck trailer look real.

@Everyone,
Really appreciate the positive feedback so far. Have a day trip planned today (texture hunt), but I might try and put together a sample building/item for you guys to try out and evaluate in engine for yourselves. No promises, but I'd want everyone completely satisfied with the product when purchased/released. =)

@Florian,
Check out six posts up from yours:

@Martin
Definitely not out of the question, how these go will probably determine future packs. If they work well for people, and everyone seems generally happy with the product then the answer will be a resounding yes, in fact your suggestion of a harbor/wharf is a great idea.

Here you go, inspiration and in game:
