PHPMMORPG...umm... about cats?

by James Carr · 05/25/2007 (8:00 pm) · 5 comments

I have been looking for ideas for an mmorpg... the php text based kind. I could not come up with ideas for a theme.

So I was browsing through those funny cat photos that have been floating around the internet and I got to thinking... what about cats?

There are some good ideas...
here is a 1/1 Soldier Cat (http://www.scottwesterfeld.com/blogimages/cathelmet.jpg)
and a 0/5 tank Cat (http://www.roflcat.com/images/cats/americancat.jpg)

Ok... maybe I am too desperate for ideas, but once I get the engines done, the theme will be easy to change.

So if you got ideas, please tell me. I want to make this unique, maybe funny too. There are too many Fantasy, LOTR style games like this. I am shooting for a game play similar to Utopia, NationStates, and NewAge3. You would command a community, train an army, and attack other communities... with cats. Well, maybe not cats, maybe bacteria... yeah... bacteria!

This is just a side project, as I am pretty desperate to dig in to some more php/mysql stuffs. If you want to help out, let me know!

I am open to other themes too... but Cats is all I got to run with.

I got most of the units, classes, spells, and effects planned out. It looks like it has potential, but I'm not sure how awesome a game about cats can possibly get.

Try something like Ogame (http://www.ogame.org) or any other php/mysql-based browser game from Gameforge - those are probably great sources for ideas!

I've always loved to play the online text based game StarKingdoms which is a fantastic concept except their game manager / designer never seems to do anything. In that regard I'm working on a text based online game with a similar concept that is based on PHP and MySQL. :)

Good luck with your project!

Ha, I've just started the same thing, 3 weeks ago :P
PHP is my favourite language, but since text-based can get kinda boring im hoping to go full 3d ;)

Wow it's strange having so many people working on what I thought was an obscure gametype! I have started my own.. If you guys want to talk about your php/mysql games I've started a section for it in my gamedevelopment forum at http://gamedev.netboardz.com/viewforum.php?f=12.

Thanks!
