"Project: Seawolf" - Submarine / Sea Life Content Pack by the 3D-Diggers

by Stefan Beffy Moises · 05/24/2007 (12:14 pm) · 28 comments

Hey folks, since Robert Brower keeps throwing awesome packs at us, we have to continue publishing them! :)
After the long awaited HorsePack is finally available, we continue with a "Submarine" and a "Sea Life" pack!
There will probably be two versions available, a stripped down "Seawolf - Submarine Pack" and a "Sea Life Pack" (at a higher price of course) containing the Seawolf Submarine and various other related objects, e.g.
a chest, corals, sharks, jellyfish, a signal light, a crab, a buoy etc.
The "Submarine" pack will probably be available next week, just gotta fix/change some code for TGE 1.5.2. (e.g. for the changed lighting) and extend the readme files etc.

Here is a first pic:

The pack will include code for the submarine, tracking torpedos, example scripts and of course all the art files (MAX format).
Besides the tracking torpedos, the submarine also has a working scope (1st and 3rd person) and it enables you to use the claw and pick items up, e.g. the included mines! (see screenshot below)

These are the most important commands the "Seawolf" supports:

Press Ctrl+G to spawn a submarine.
Press W to move forward.
Press S to move back.
Press E to surface.
Press Q to dive.
Press the jump key to fire torpedos.
Click the left mouse button to activate the claw.
Release the mouse button to close the claw.
Click the right mouse button to activate the scope.
Move the mouse left and right to rotate the scope while activated.
Release the right mouse button to deactivate the scope.
When the submarine is stable enough to activate the scope, the scope icon will appear.
When an item is within grasping range of the claw, the claw icon will appear.

Speaking of the horse pack... we submitted a devshot like 3 weeks ago, doesn't seem it goes through though, so here it is:

Stay tuned for the SeaWolf! :)

I'll be getting the Sea Life pack, it looks great!

My son has been asking me to make him a submarine/diving game for months, looks like you just put me well on my way!

I know you guys want to see the sub in action, so here you go ;)

Please note that the fish aren't animated yet (but of course they will be in the final sealife pack!), but you should get a pretty good idea of how the "Seawolf" feels :)
Any special model wishes for the sealife pack anyone?

Looks great! I like underwater stuff. My favourite one was Subwar 2050 if anyone want to do a remake - I would love that.

I would like to see some Manta Rays or similar gliding across the sea bed and maybe a couple of sunken boats (thinking rowing boat sized wrecks)?

Hi J Sears!

My inspiration for the Seawolf was the GI Joe 'Seawolf' submarine that I had when I was 8.

http://www.users.vance.net/grayarea/1427seawolf.html

My Seawolf doesn't look exactly like GI Joe's but my Seawolf's pincers are mouse controllable instead of having just a little spring.

Mine also doesn't come with a foot pump (har har), but it has a search light on the claw that can be moved around with the mouse.

It also has a first person reticle view while you're using the periscope, and supports sonar sounds. I hope you like it.

Cheers!

Robert

Vashner,

I bet that navy sub would be a snap to model. And the code from this pack would work with it without a hitch even if you left off the claw, if you use the same kinds of animations. Maybe a project for me for the future when I get more time =)

Thanks for the positive feedback.

Shouldn't the submarine have a, whaddyacallit, front on it? ;)

It has a glass dome like front that you can't see too good in the screenshot I guess.

Quick update... I've changed the lighting code for the headlight, items and tracking projectiles to use the TGE 1.5.x lighting system - and that adds a lot to the atmosphere :) Robert also sent me some scripts he has written for the pack and now the sharks, crabbs etc. are moving along paths, which also helps a great deal in terms of atmosphere - I'll make another video in a bit :)
Only needs some more testing and cleaning up and I guess we can put the TGE 1.5.x version into the shop!
