Wacom powered...

by Maxim Lyulyukin aka "Robomaniac" · 03/28/2007 (6:38 am) · 9 comments

It is a nice day, just bought brand new Wacom tablet and VERY glad to this.. Now i am able to do more complex texturing and also sketching..
This gives me ability to develop characters from sketch to model in game. So first impressions of using tablet here:

Looks really cool Maxim. I am pretty much in love with Wacom, especially the drivers. If you have an intuos w/ button /strips setup you can customize your setup per application which I would highly recommend. Anyway, can't wait to see you model this guy out!

Maxim, Wacom is king!

What size is yours? I use to work with a really large one, but found the space it took up was too much, I actually now use a ...4x6ish, not exactly sure what the working area is, but it does the job.

Yeah also used to have a giant one and swapped it for a teeny one... could use a tad bigger tho...

I own a tablet too, mine is a Wacom 6x8 Intuos 3. It is the best investment any artist can purchase 2D or 3D. I love using Corel Painter X (www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/ca/en/Product/1166553885783) You can use tools that make your art look like paper drawings, sketches, oils, pastels and tons of other amazing drawing features. You can even mix oils and other paint colors. It is like mixing real paints too.... And with Wacom Intuos 3's 1024 pressure sensitivity, it works perfect and looks stunning in Painter X.

Ok now that the commercial is over, Maxim, impressive work as always :) It is great to hear that an artist such as yourself, is getting the gear to make yourself even better. Awesome.

Oh and there is nothing wrong with the Graphire4 6x8 that you have, it is a great starting point and a great tablet... NOW Stop dreaming about the Cintiq 21, because I want one too, but lets face it...... right now it is too damn pricey hahaha

@Maxim & Steve: I got myself a cintiq 21 last year and it's great to work on, I started with a wacom Intuos a couple of years back though and just loved that as well. A more afordable alternative to painter is ArtRage, at just $20 it's a bargain, I can't stop playing with that simulated oil. Keep painting fellas :)

EDIT: Ah, my text was eaten, shorter, less advertising version... :-(
Looks great Maxim, I recently bought a tablet, but mines is a Trust TB-4200 (12 X 9inch)

I did a background image with pd particles and the tablet in my last blog entry (the pressure sensor is great!): (www.garagegames.com/index.php?sec=mg&mod=resource&page=view&qid=12532)

I look forward to seeing what other cool stuff you do with your new friend! :0)

EDIT: Looking at the price on the wacom website, the Graphire4 seems a bit pricey (at 195 dollars/101 pounds and assuming you bought yours for around that) for what seems to be half the size of the model I bought (45 pounds / 88 dollars), unless I'm getting my measurements wrong, in which case forgive me in advance! :-S
