One helluva week it has been for me. Last Wednesday, March 21st, I was blessed with truly the greatest gift I've ever received... my baby girl Kaitlyn Rose.

The last few months of this pregnancy was very rough for both me and my wife. At the first of February she was put on bed rest due to high blood pressure. It was scary and worried her a good bit on what we would do about bills and such. So I started working a second job and worked around 70 hours a week, and then took care of housework when I was around. Thank god for her parents and my parents that took care of her while I was working. Because of this I hadn't had a chance to work on my game any, or even the magazine idea I had. But honestly both were in the back of mind. My wife and her well being were first, and of course my unborn child.

Things got better. She was scheduled for induction for last Wednesday, so Tuesday night we went to the hospital, and everything was awesome.... until 5:30 a.m. At that time my baby's heart rate climbed to a very high 190 - 200. They believed it was in response to the medicine used in the induction, so they monitored it until around 7:00 when they gave my wife a shot that was suppose to negate the effects of the induction agent for awhile and calm the baby down. Well in response to this my wife's pulse got up to 120 beats a minute. Within 5 minutes I heard the doctor run by and scream at the nurse to get my wife into the operating room she figured out the problem and would have to do a c-section. So they took my wife off and told me that they would be back to get me so I could go in there with her. Boy was she wrong.

An anesthesiologist came in asking for permission to use general anesthesia because it was needed to get my wife's heart rate down and if they couldn't get the two (her and my daughter's) heart rates stable, and then I would lose one of them. My heart sank and an amount of fear that I had never felt filled my body. I told her to do what they had they to do to keep both alive for me. I sat in this small room by myself panic stricken; I'll admit I even cried I was so scared. Finally after the longest thirty minutes and the most praying I've ever done, a nurse came out and issued me a security bracelet, and another one handed me my daughter. I took her to the nursery where my wife's doctor met me and explained that the baby had a bowel movement in the womb and meconium was present (which can very fatal for those who don't know) but they were able to suction it all out and there appeared no harm to the baby. Then the doctor said this was a good thing... I asked how my baby almost dying like that was good. She said that the placenta had started detaching from the womb and preeclampsia (spelling?) was starting. If they had kept the induction going, within hours my baby would have been dead, and possibly my wife could have hemorrhaged to death. I gave my daughter the biggest kiss in the world because she saved her own life and my wife's by simply going to the bathroom. She truly is the greatest miracle to me.

What would a blog like this be without a picture of the 9 lb 10.8 oz Kaitlyn... so here they are.

Congratulations!!!

Man... who needs games?! You got the real thing right there in your arms. I'm not happy about almost being made to CRY reading a .plan!! But I'm glad you thought us shmucks were worth sharing the best moment of your life with.

EDIT:

I just got my wife, Melissa, to read this. She cried like CRAZY!! I just had to hold her for a bit. I asked if she wanted to adopt now. :P

Congrats again Chip, to you, your wife and the baby.
Your email was a little bit more soft than the real story.

I really like the ending of this story! ;-)
Take care of them and yourself.

God bless and Congrats! I hope you and your wife do manage to get some sleep at some point. 8-| Oh, and remember, start Kaitlyn on the ways of TGB, then work your way up! That should keep her in good stead ;0)

Congrats for sure. I'm the biggest "guys don't cry" person in the world but when my son was born a year ago I cried like crazy. It was the most joy I'd ever experienced in my life. I think my face still hurts from smiling so damn much that day.

I'm glad everything turned out. You never realize how much you can truely love something until you have a baby.

Quote:but once I get some sleep and rest

See you in about a year and a half then? ;)

@all
Thanks for all the kind words guys. I know this wasn't a game update, but an amazing event in my life that I just had to share :) And this may be biased, but I have to say she was the cutest baby in the nursery ;)

@Maxwell
She was 1 week early I guess you could say. With that weight, probably a good thing too ;)

@Dave
Congrats man. I can't describe the feeling it is man when you first hold 'em. I wish you luck my friend.

Hey Chip,
I'm happy to say both my daughters' births, adventures in their own ways, were mild in comparision. What a wild ride.
Welcome to Fatherhood!

congrats, i firmly believe kids are here for 2 reasons
1. comic relief (trust me your will understand soon enough)
2. to pay us back for the things we did as kids growing up. (remember all the times you got in trouble as kid, hehe) you will love it though. and they are right about the sleepless nights. thankfully that does away after right when you get used to it. only to be replaced with something more exciting :)

Wow, what a story. Congrats on the new arival. She will bring you so much joy, and so much heartache, but all is worth it in the end. :)

My wife couldn't read past the first paragraph, but PHEW hey? What a journey. All good in the end, so congratulations. Your daughter has my daughter's middle name, Emma Caitlin. Good luck with the new family. I think this was your first yes? It's all late nights, early mornings, poopy nappies, farts, bottles and smiles from here. Enjoy! Oh and take lots of pictures :)
