Flawless Day/Night Transitions in TGE 1.5

by Bryce "Cogburn" Weiner · 03/20/2007 (6:29 pm) · 27 comments

I'll just let the video do the talking. Video codec is DivX 5

What the video doesn't say... and I will... is that John Kabus is a genius. :)

This is based on the existing EnviroTorque resource. The whole thing integrates near flawlessly with the 1.5 codebase. I'm not going to resource this just yet, because I'd like to spruce the whole thing up with Steven Peterson's EnviroTorque 2.0. Hey Steven... If you read this, drop me a line. If you don't have time to finish it, I might be able to pickup where you left off.

EDIT: At the time of the original post this didn't work client/server.... But at the time of this edit... it does. :)

I've been in a couple of email exchanges over this... and Ron has inspired me to finally resource this.

I'm going to be working on it over the next couple of weeks.

Hmm, you might want to think about working with this using the Moderization Kit, it might give you the DRL, and stuff that would really make day/night transitions shine!

Just my two sense....

Let me know what you think!

Might there be any updates regarding this resource?

I was also wondering how you were able to get the ground to lighten and darken in real time? I've rewritten the lightmap generation code to slowly make a new terrain lightmap behind the scenes over a short period of time, but it only is an option on fast PCs. I'd love to offer the ability to use whatever method you are, if its not a coding nightmare.

These day/night lighting resources all appear to use whatever it is, and the forums haven't been able to give any any clues as to what you are doing. Any help would be appreciated.

Is there a resource for the Day/Night cycle. The only one I have seen had someone asking if it worked in TGE1.5.2 last year sometime and there was no response.
