Torque-based Social Networking!

Hi all, this is my first .plan although I guess I should have really been running one during my main development phase :) I have released a beta of the project I have been working on for the last few months which you can have a look at at www.date-4-free.com.

Anyway, some time ago a friend of mine and I started to build a dating site pretty similar to the hundreds that you maybe come across while browsing through Google. I think we did a pretty good job and the site has attracted a few thousand users. Where does Torque fit into this? Well we also started to look at the 3D environments that were avaiable to gamers and thought - can't this be used for social networking too??? Over time it has become apparent that some big names have tried this too - www.there.com, www.secondlife.com to name a couple.

OK, so it wasn't a unique idea but well, it seemed like a fun one, and at least I've seen it through and got something up and running! The plan now really is to use the beta to get some feedback, correct all the bugs that will be discovered and keep on improving it!

Virtual Dating includes the following:

1. A designable character - mesh-swapping clothes and body-part and face resizing.
2. Pop-up speech bubbles for the characters
3. A world featuring beaches, art galleries, cities and more...
4. Some funky tunes in the right places
5. Some quirky "gesturing" animations
6. Map and teleport functions
7. It can run in a browser as an activeX.
8. Er, it's all free!

Give it a look at www.date-4-free.com... the server is UK based so I'm not sure about the response times from elsewhere :)

Any chance you'd make that popup speech bubble code a resource?

Richard - yes that's something I've been meaning to do for a while now. I'm a bit busy with a few things at the moment, but expect it to appear soon and I'll notify here.
